so today, i disconnected everything from the motor in order to pull it out. dude, sooo many hoses and shit  but my friend and i are gonna pull the motor tomorrow, then i shall proceed to clean the bay. anybody have any good suggestions on going about this? once the bay is clean and all is good, i’ll drop the b16 in. i also need to buy an engine stand which means more money spent  it’ll be good in the long run so money well spent i guess :werd:
well, got some pics for ya. here they areeeee
b16
my buddy dave, who’s helped me soo much with this car
sup guys. its been a while but i’ve got updates for yaa
pulled the b20 early saturday morning! while the motor was out i cleaned up the bay with some simple green. good stuff also removed a/c
me an my bro in law swapped the b16 tranny with the ys1 (the b16 didn’t have a clutch disc, and we already know the ys1 works). went and got honda mtf for it tuesday, we dropped in the b16. the header was a bitch to get in! i had to loosen the cross member in order to get it on…there was no clearance otherwise. maybe that’s what you’re supposed to do?
it starts just fine except it started squirting oil everywhere near the firewall area. idk what it was so this is where i need your guys’ help…i’m sure i plugged everything back to where it needed to be…:worry:
i only took a few pics:
this was before i cleaned it. i didn’t take an after pic :werd:
thanks man! the header wouldn’t clear the space between my cross member and the motor so i loosened up the cross member and took off the front motor mount to get it on
alright, so my brother in law and i tried to diagnose the problem today and it the oil isn’t squirting from near the oil filter area – its higher and to the right, nearer to the i/m.
here’s a pic. it’s coming from right above that rail/pipe thing (sorry, i don’t know the name, obviously haha)
my brother in law went on the local forum and asked on there. they said it could be because the head gasket was put on wrong or the head may be warped?
should i start a new thread in the assistance forum?
May sound stupid but: start the car and look where it’s coming from.
Is it squirting at an alarming rate or just seeping and then accumulating?
On my B20V the oring on the Golden Eagle sandwich plate had a slight dip in it and caused it to spray out even at idle… I thought for the longest time it was something else til I crawled under the car (with safety glasses on) and took a peak.
that’s exactly what i did actually haha. it’s coming out at an alarming rate, and i really mean alarming.
yeah my brother in law just texted me and said it might be that there are 2 o-rings? or the head gasket being on wrong. you don’t think the warped head thing is a possibility is it?
2 o-rings on what? if youre using a sandwich plate then there are two, but if youre not then there should only be one unless youre motor has an oil cooler.
i dont think the headgasket is the issue personally. it would suck if it was, cuz wasnt the engine supposedly a fully rebuilt to OE spec engine? if thats the case it would kinda set some alarms off for me as to the competence of who assembled it.
for your sake i hope its not the headgasket. there should be a way to tell if it was installed properly without removing the head. but i’m not sure.
sorry, i meant two o-rings on the oil filter. no i’m not using a sandwich plate. the oil was coming out near where the block meets the head so it’s got me thinking it might be the headgasket. if that’s so, then yes it does make me question how good the guy who rebuilt it is…hopefully its nothing big
i’ll check it out more tomorrow and see what’s up. thanks for your help so far bro
I believe If the headgasket was installed properly you should see a copper rivet (holds the 3 layers tgether) sticking out on the timing belt side of the engine
i didn’t take a look at the car today as it was raining and i decided to take a break from it to do something else. but a lot of people have been saying that the head gasket was put on wrong. there should be a silver tab under the vtec solenoid if it was put on correctly, and if not, the tab would be on the left, not under the solenoid. this seems like it would make sense, right?
so just in case it was the head gasket, how hard is it to take off the head? i searched and some didn’t say it was too hard but others said they fucked up some valves and stuff by not putting it back on right…i’ve never removed the head before so idkkk
i’ll definitely take a look at the car tomorrow. hopefully this is an easy fix :worry:
btw, what’s that gasket that goes between the header and cat called? i need a new one and autozone only has the oem ones. mine is 2.5 inches
that’s what i want to hear haha i’ll take off the head on my b20v first since its out already and i’ll have to do it anyways. still gotta check the oil filter on the b16 though. i just wanna get this thing on the road!!! :hyper:
thank you! yes, i have put countless hours into this car, and i’m sure i have countless more hours to go haha. at first, i didn’t really like the wing, but after a while it grew on me still got the oem one just in case though
took off the head with the help of a friend. The head gasket was on backwards and upside down lol so we sprayed it with some seal, flipped it, and put everything back on…no more oil squirting! So my car is up and running, and I think if might’ve found a hood and bumper too
I also disassembled my b20v beforehand just to see how it would be taking the head off. I’m updating this via my phone so I’ll post pics lataaa
