My time - question

93 Integra LS
:custom paint job - Purple Flake fade to Blue flake fade to Black with Blue flake
:Matrix Short Ram Intake - upgrading to AEM Cold Air
:Exedy Stage 1 Clutch
:NGK plugs
:bosch Wires
:2 1/4 Custom bent piping with Summit Turbo muffler - being upgraded to a Thermal Cat back system
:Should have Venom 400 chip in a few weeks

When my teg was up and running I was running 16.1 @ 84 mph…
I had Matrix Short Ram intake and the stock exhaust… that was pretty beat up… had holes in it and different size pipes for quick fixes from previous owner…

I have purchased a venom 400 chip… AEM Cold Air Intake and Thermal R&D cat back exhaust… and looking to put a DC-S 4-1 header on… and a new transmission… once all that is on does anyone know if my time will be in the low to mid 15’s ?

My goal is to get into the high 14’s all engine

You should be able to break into the 15’s with the new set-up (I’m not sure why you are buying a chip though), but it’s going to depend mostly on your driving.

To run high 14’s you will need to start doing real mods, like cams and changing compression and stuff. Good luck.

nicely put stu.

i ran a 15.86 with only a 8.8lb flywheel and a exedy clutch. a lot of drag racing depends on tires, and driver. if i had some sticky tires, and not these shitty stock ones, i could probably run a low 15.7x which we’ll find out soon. but yeah, with those mods, and good driving, i’d say high-mid 15’s. with some cams, 14s are possible with tuning

wow, 15.8 with only clutch and flywheel, that is awesome!
I get really crappy traction and spin all the time with only releasing at 1800 rpm. I am planning on doing cams and compression soon… also… just gotta get the money ya know how it is…

You dont like the Chip? Venom 400 adds up to 25% hp… so they say atleast… im getting it used for a good price tho
what do you suggest for cams… AEM ?

aem doesnt make cams, but they make cam gears. a lot of guys run crower cams. which is what ill be running also

What chips do is remap your air/fuel maps. If you aren’t running forced induction, there aren’t really any gains to buying a chip. I think I would just advance my timing before buying a chip.

Thats not true. your “real” mods benefit from a remapping of the ecu. Sure, it wont be optimized but saying that it doesnt give any gains is bs.

Ben

Right, but he doesn’t have any real mods yet.

that is what I meant… AEM Cam gears…
Forced induction is out of my budget until next February… then I am going to do some major mods… havnt decided yet… here is what I was thinking… with a 5 grand budget…

Option 1 ) Converting LS to Vtec new head pistons all that… est. 2grand… plus a turbo… est. 3 grand… (keep in mind my current engine has 160k miles on it so I dont know if it is really worth doing all that too, and if it would even hold up)

Option 2 ) JDM B18c5 (5g)or b16b (3g) both with the LSD tranny…

any opinions?

buy a milled LS head which will raise your compression.(.040 is safe with stock internals. this will roughly raise the compression .4 points) Get some Crower, Crane, Colt, EF-1 cams and some cam gears, comptech or JDM DC header and afc or hondata and you should be able to hit 14s.

Where do I find a milled LS head?

Here

well thats sweet, but i dont have the money for it right now, maybe once I get some saved up I could pay you to mill mine

alright, just let me know

Nice tag line, 'Cisco.

ok, here is what I have planned for FALL… please give opinions

  1. LS/Vtec conversion, with a turbo (havnt decided what kind), and LSD kit

  2. b16 JDM with a turbo

  3. B18c5 stock

current mods on my B18
-Thermal R&D Cat Back exhaust
-AEM Cold Air Intake
-plugs/wires

getting before fall
-Venom 400 chip
-Comp camshaft
-AEM Cam gears/ or edelbrock… havnt decided
-header - DC Sports ceramic coated
-Hi flow cat by Catco

If you really do want to go turbo, don’t buy ANY of this, because you will have to just take it off when you go turbo anyway.

Why would I have to take off the venom 400 and camshaft?
< a newbie still learning about everything be easy on me :cross:

So what do you suggest to get instead of those,
I want to be in the high 14’s… im tired of getting left behind when cruising with my friends… they have mustang GT’s and Camaro SS’s, but im an import fan

so what would be best to get that I wont have to take off when I get my b16 head and a turbo… I have decided to do the ls/vtec swap with a Turbo.

hey,if you want 14s. go NA LS. i just hit a 14.9 with a broken differential, boggin at the line (bad launch), and only got 1 good run in. I should have been low-mid 14s.

take some consideration into that

Well, because both the chip and the camshafts you would buy are strictly for N/A applications (if they weren’t you wouldn’t be buying them). The chip would have N/A fuel curves and timing settings that would be BAD news for a turbo set-up; same with the cam shafts. N/A camshafts rely on a lot of overlap to make power by scavenging exhaust gases out of the cylinder. With boost, the gases are under so much pressure that they flow right out without the aid of any scavenging techniques. High overlap with forced induction is bad because the pressure on the exhaust side is high, that if you leave the valves open too long together, the exhaust will come back into the cylinder. Either that, or your boost charge will just blow right on through unused.
