Ive seen a little written about this subject through my research, however i have not found any definitive answers… If running a turbo with no A/C and no PS, do i need to purchase a new cross member or can I use the OEM cross member? IF i do need to buy one, can someone give me a link to where i can find one? thank you!
depends
whats wrong with the OEM one?
depends on what? ive been told that the oem one will get in the way of certain parts.
“certain parts” elaborate please. It depends on your manifold and down pipe. If you plan on running a 12" down pipe you might want to look into getting some fullrace traction bars:whisper:
I dont know…this is why i am asking! All I know is that I was told i need to buy a crossmember to allow a turbo/components to fit, and i am asking if there is any truth to this.
ive already read it. thank you though…
look the reason he says it depends is because it does… it depends on what manifold/downpipe/turbo combination you go with as to whether or not you need a new crossmember. i cant tell you which ones for sure fit and which ones dont as i would never try to make one fit with the stock crossmember anyway. i got some full race bars and never looked back. there are other good similar products available for the g2 out there as well. so here is my question to you… whats so good about the stock one thats worth keeping? going turbo isnt, and shouldnt be, cheap. also, your power will be hopefully doubled, so wouldnt you want some additional traction, control and rigidity to go with that? you will probably have to work on the thing from time to time, so dont you want as much room as possible to work in? imho a good aftermarket crossmember is a necessary part of a complete turbo system, but not everyone on here will agree with me. i think you should get one. you wont be disappointed, thats for sure!
well thank you…thats a good and helpful repsonse. is it traction bars im looking for then or is it a cross member im looking for?
here it is for you…on a shiny fucking spoon.
my question to you is why the fuck dont you just wait and see how everything fits before you drop $500 and some change on traction bars you may not need just yet. that money would be better spent on a couple hours at the dyno, when all of your shit is running and running right.
im tired of seeing noobs on here running FMU’s, S/VAFC’s, Greddy blue boxes, or bull shit basemaps because they spent all of there money on dumb shit they didnt need off the bat, like electronic boost controllers and shiny fuel rails.
spend your money where it counts, fuel mgmt, and tuning. DYNO TUNING with reputable people and software, thats whats going to make you power, reliable power.
thanks ass hole for all your smart ass remarks… if you look at my last post, i said that i got the answer i needed… i didnt say i was going to go buy it, im not a fuckin retard. If you must know im getting prices together so i have a goal that i can save for… Because im not loaded and my parents are buying this for me. And I know how to surf the internet…

this may be my first turbo kit but i would do that… this is why i am researching my shit first. and just so you know, during my research i have read plenty of forums that nubes have tried putting together a kit and got it tuned that were missing key components… not to mention the people that say they have built several turbo cars that built a kit that failed because they were missing components or had components that they may not have needed. and thats according to what i have read by other people… so dont start saying that this is a noob thing… So in conclusion, calm the fuck down and if you cant be respectful and helpful to people researching so they can build a good kit because they want to learn, maybe you shouldnt be on the forums and fuck off… this is what the forums are for in the first place isnt it, helping people?
my edit button wont work… is this another noob mistake?
this may be my first turbo kit but i would do that
that should have said i would not do that
try installing your setup and if it doesnt fit buy the new one…
whew, dont get your panties all in a bunch.
one of the main attractions to a traction bar is the fact that it opens up all of that space taken by the OEM one. what im trying to say is instead of buying it beforehand, testfit your turbo/manifold/downpipe setup to see if it will clear your crossmember. if it does save your money, if not buy one.
i wasnt calling you a noob directly, but when i see this kind of stuff i think of how easy the answer to it is. kinda common sense just to test fit and see if you dont clear.
if people like me werent on these forums, people like you wouldnt have any answers. i have 4 turbo setups under my belt, along with countless motor swaps.
hmmm.
gosh…grow up!!! here’s the Z10. I recommend them or fullrace http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154063&highlight=z10

now if you said that the first time i would of said thank you and that would have been the end to it.

that wasnt the issue…like i already said im just tryig to price this out so i know waht i need to save… if you didnt judge so fast and run your mouth, you might have found that out and saved yourself the humiliation of making yourself look like a dick.

If you keep giving people answers like you originally gave me, i would second guess yourself on the question of are you actually giving people answers.
congrats on your track record, if you actually know what you say you know maybe i will ask you questions in the future but people dont want to hear your smart ass remarks.
Everybody that gave me a decent answer with logic behind it,thank you! this is the end to this thread. somebody please lock it!
