While my car was on the dyno it would rev up to ~5000rpm and then it would die down. It falls flat on its face, does not make any more power at all. The fuel is there, spark is also there and compression is good also. The car is currently running on e85 but it also had this problem with premium gas. Here is my set up
B18a1
Benson sleeves
balanced crank
blueprinted’
je pistons 9.1 compression
eagle rods
arp studs
port flow head/ port and polish
ferrea valves
dual crower springs
titanium retainers
BC stage 2 all motor cams
Garret 60-1 turbo
tial wastegate
synapse bov
Aeromotive 100 micron filter
aeromotive regulator
golden eagle fuel rail
rc 1000cc injectors
walboro 255
We though we were losing spark but i’ve changed the plugs twice and also changed the distributer along with the wires but i still have the same problems. Any ideas? From reading my wideband, the car starts to lean out as soon as boost is built.
what are you afr’s like in boost? what kind of tuning system and fuel pressure are you running? whats your peak boost pressure at that rpm? what do your timing and fuel maps look like at that level? stupid question but what plugs are you using as well as what gap are your plugs at? are the plugs showing any signs of pre detonation? alot of factors can contribute to your issue.
unfortunately i dont have the timing and fuel maps with me. We are using crome pro for tuning. For plugs we have used ngk #6,8,9 gapped from ~26 all the way down to ~16. My fuel psi stays constant at around ~42 psi. We have tried different boost levels ranging from 8psi to 18psi. The car seems to lean out starting at 5000rpm. Unfortunately my wideband is not too accurate using e85 because its meant to run gas so i cant tell you exact afr’s
For turbo applications you really should have higher injectors for running e85. My tuner recommends that if you run e85 you should have 1000cc for all motor applications and 1600cc for turbo applications.
Not saying that’s what it is, but it could be based on what he said and the current size injectors you have.
i understand the injector issue but that still should not be doing that. The car is only making 213hp because of this. 1000cc should get me to low 400’s hp easy.
i understand you are trying to help but that does not help at all. My tuner has tons of experience with high power cars. On any kind of gas, he is one of the few tuners in town tuning with e85 and has plenty of evo’s running around burning e85. i know what i got myself into with e85 but this problem happens with both e85 and gas.
well i noticed that my spark plug wires were arching if i pulled a wire while the car was running. They were ngk so i changed them to stock honda wires and they still arch but not as much. Could this be the cause of the car running like this? They are arching from the boots, not just the bottom of the boot but all from the sleeve.
