need help with turbo

I am running a b18c1 in my 90 integra and i want to go turbo. I have no experience with turbos and i dont really know what to look for. Ive heard a t6 or t7 would be the best for my motor, also i have no internals so my motor is basically stock, will the turbo be too much for the stock motor? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The eldebrock kit is complete even with a piggyback Motorola ECU so you do not have to worry about engine management and you don’t have to go the cheap and dangerous way of running a FMU. Comes with an intake manifold too. It got really good reviews in some car magazine last month. I think that it was Sport Compact Car. I think it was in a white GSR.

  • Read the GUIDE. Then read it again.

  • Figure about 2k to get you started.

  • First time on a stock block go with a T3 super 60 and you will be VERY happy with the performance.

  • Dont buy crap, you will replace it.

  • Dont buy a rebuilt turbo, you will replace it.

That will get you started…

log manifold, t3/t4 turbo, fmic, ic pipes, bov, oil lines, 255 fuel pump, dsm 450cc injectors. a good tuner that should get you started

Thanks, in one of the las import magazines i got there is a honda civic running a b18c1 and he has 749hp, he is running a b16 head however, would i have to change the ecu or wiring at all for the vtec to run a b16 head? i cant seem to find a gsr head, the reason i am getting an extra head is to get new valve springs, retainers, and get a 3 way valve job. Thanks for all the help!

b16 head on b18c block is poormans type r.

What would the difference of a running a b16 head compared to the gsr head?

im am not exactly sure but someone can correct me if im wrong. but the b16 head on gsr block raises compression ratio. but if your going to boost i would just kep the gsr head, it has better cams in for boost.

also dont waste money on another head just have yours built. and i dont think you would have to change any wiring for the vtec. but im not absolutly sure.

Okay, but i plan on upgrading the cams anyways…so with upgraded cams the b16 head would be better than a gsr head? Sorry about my lack of knowledge I am still learning a lot. Thank you for all the help.

the best cams for boost isnt aftermarket. its itr cams. imo. i would keep the gsr and get type r cams.

thanks a million

your welcome. thats what the forums are here for. but keep researchin till you find more info out and the right setup for you car.

the b16 head would lower your compression ratio. it has a larger combustion chamber volume I believe the B16 is 42.5cc?? and the GSR is 41cc?? i’m not sure on the exact CCs but the info is out there. http://technet.ff-squad.com/cr-calculator.htm would give you an Idea of what you would be looking at as far as compression between the two heads. If you can’t have the down time I would say get another GSR head and build it as planned. that way you can take your time and have it done right without rushing to get your car running again.

iwnt i have the gsr cam now but my tuner told me cat cam came out with this new turbo cams that will give another 40hp.Do u know abiut these cam?

Okay so the B16 head would give me the best compression ratio, but in order to put a B16 head on the B18c1 mototr, do i need to change the ecu? What things need to be done in order to run a B16 block or can you just bolt it on? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

putting a b16 head on the gsr block will lower the compression a bit… however, they are both wired the same, but the gsr does have a different intake manifold where you will have to get ur ecu chipped if you swapped heads… but that shouldnt be a prob as you are getting the car tuned once put together
I would just stick with the stock gsr or type r cams as many people have made plenty of power on them…
With a stock bottom end, you can boost a easy 10lbs and make over 300whp as long as you have a good tuner

turboda4dr no i havent heard anything about those cams. i as many other people like the gsr or type r cams over aftermarket. they have been proven to work great on boost aplications. just as sweetchin was saying.

summitg2 why dont you just keep the gsr on there it will already have cams that work great for boost. and a gsr is good on boost soi just find it better to just stick with the whole gsr. i thought that people put the b16 head on gsr block to make a poormans type r and use it to run all motor setups. just my opinion.

thx for the info

I think you are right, im going to run a gsr head, however i cant seem to find a cheap used gsr head to get worked on, i cant afford the down time of taking mine out to get it worked on, i am a fulltime student in highschool and i live 40 miles away from my school, my car is my only form of transportation…Any one know where i can find a cheap gsr block, or maybe one thats already built up?
