Needing Help with future boosting

If your budget doesnt permit for quality parts then I say dont do it. it is not worth the headache. you can always check the classifieds here for quality used parts that you will be needing but again, I advise you to stay away from no name cheap parts.

^^^agreed.

This. Do it right or do not do it at all. Here is a little taste of Greg over at Go Autoworks work, in my opinion it is as good if not better then the best options available. This will be going on a DA…

On the bench measuring rods, pistons, crank journals, etc.

could you give me a number crunch on how much all of those parts together would be? like 1500, or even 2k?

nice set up!

You do not have to spend what I spent to have a super reliable solid setup. You can get a complete soup to nuts quality turbo kit from Greg at Go Autoworks for less then 2 grand. fuel pump, injectors and something solid to tune with could cost you another 800-1500 dollars depending on how crazy you want to get. Other then that, a decent clutch and resurfaced stock flywheel another 300-500 bucks. You CAN do a nice quality setup for under 4 grand with new parts. I unfortunately am way deeper into it then that due to the build, etc.

^ the setup above is a good example of a more “advanced” street/track all around build capable of making 400+whp easily.

A basic (200-330whp) quality kit/fuel/fuel management setup can easily be had for under $3k.

Listen to this guy, he knows his stuff. Also, the fact that he released a DA specific turbo kit in 2012 shows how much he loves these cars. How can you not support Go-Autoworks for supporting us?

Thanks for the great information guys! just keep it coming, im looking at purchasing this kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/CIVIC-B16-B18-STAINLESS-MANIFOLD-T3-T4-63-TURBO-CHARGER-KIT-INTERCOOLER-13PCS-/170751758436?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item27c1991064 but not sure still, my buddies are saying youll be fine with this kind of kit for what im looking for for right now, but making a huge purchase like this, theres that gut feeling thats saying no haha, its seems like everythings there but just would like some more input from other people to see if its legit or not.

Listen to your gut, forget that ebay kit. If you are buying a turbo kit based purely on price, you should not be boosting your car.

Truer words have never been spoken… er typed… er… Yeah.

There are some things that you can scrimp on and be ok… Piping… Hoses… Small miscellaneous things of that nature… Hell, even a turbo manifold can be ‘decently functional’ if its an eBay unit… The “drag”/cast manifolds will work, for a time, though will eventually develop cracks due to shoddy-metal and craftsmanship.

But as far as the turbo itself, or the intercooler, I’d definitely go with something that is proven and reliable. You don’t absolutely need a FullRace/AFI setup, but there is a reason why such companies charge what they do, and why eBay products are as cheap as they are.

Great looking build so far man! Those rods are damn good looking… and that manifold… Ugh! Sexy! Good work so far. Definitely keep us updated on the build process.

On a sidenote… Being that that manifold is DA specific, does it allow you to retain AC/PS? Not that it matters to me as mine are both uninstalled… But it is a question that occurred to me.

That manifold that I am using will allow you to keep the PS but not the AC. My car will still have PS. If you use his log style setup which is less money, it will clear both PS and AC.

Dont waste your money.

I dont want to be “that guy” to point out whats wrong with that pile-o-stuff; but I can assure you. That would be $600 wsted that could go towards better parts.

Sage advice.

ok sorry havent been updating that much, I had a very bad anti freeze leak situation, as I was driving I saw white smoke coming from under the hood so I pulled over to target to look under the hood, couldnt really tell where it was coming from while it was hot so I waited and got some sour patch kids at the store and looked around a little bit but besides that I went out to see a whole puddle of anti freeze under my car so as I checked the hoses I saw that a small one, couldnt really give you an honest answer to what the hose is for but there were two hoses from the intake manifold to the engine and one is about 2 inches long and the other one was a little longer and they are side by side that are shaped like an S. Well after me rubbing my finger on the smaller hose I found out it was leaking from there so I got a new hose and took out the old one to find out that it was dry rotted so glad it was an easy fix, but as I was working on it I was debating if I should boost it because my engine has 208K on it and im scared that somethings going to go very badly in a short amount of time after I put the turbo on since it is my DD I need it to still work for me for coming years.

im not going to back out on boosting this DA though because when I set a goal I WILL follow through but I really want to boost now on my 208K engine and just have the engine rebuild somewhere down the road. I really would like to hear what yall have to say so just give it to me straight. Is my engine ok to handle this 6-8lbs of boost, or should I really just rebuild my engine before?

Only you can tell the condition and health of your motor. A leak down and compression test will tell you what you need to know.

A dry rotted heater hose is not uncommon. A basic system flush and regasket of the motor is probably a good idea.

Buying an ebay kit is not so good of an idea. If your bothered by something as small as a heater hose going out, just think of what it would be like for one of those cheap turbo parts to fall apart.

All fact, I recently had a heater hose do the same thing ironically. DO NOT buy an eBay kit.

Thanks for the advice autoworks, my car started to overheat again but this time it only over heats when i come to a stop, i pulled into a parking lot and saw that neither of the fans were spinning so its either maybe that, or maybe the water pump, or shoot maybe even the thermostat. I will definetly keep this updated, to show my little adventure of boosting this DA

or maybe an air pocket in the cooling system, blown fuse, bad relay, bad thermo
