new tires - opinions

i need new tires as soon as possible - my front tires are almost bald… it rained today and i creeped around every turn going about 2 miles an hour hehe :)… anyway… what are some really good tires… i live in mississippi so i dont usually have to worry about precipitation… i still have my stock gs-rs… opinions and recommendations please … thanks

I have Pirelli P8000 Vizzolas in 195/60-14. Only Sears and NTB sell them but they sure as hell stick nice. Make sure you get the summer version of them which is V-rated as opposed to the M+S H-rated version.

any pictures? how much are they? thanks

I really like my Pirelli P700-Zs, nice tread pattern, great in dry, but still good in wet. The Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s are really nice too, I haven’t personally driven on them, but lots of people in my Auto-X group love them.
The P700s are V rated, good tread wear for a performance tire. Under $50 at www.discounttiredirect.com the cool thing is that discount tire will honor those prices in house plus $7.00 shipping (per tire) If you want to spend about $75 I’d go with the Kumho.
I wouldn’t say they are the best, because I don’t have a lot of performance tire experence, but they did come highly recommended, and I have no complaints.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE910’s. Very good tire for the money. Here’s a pic of them on a gsr rim:

These are on AcIntegraLS’s girlfriends car.

My Pirelli P8000 Vizzolas, V-rated, 195/60-14:

I don’t think Kumhos come in 195/60-14, and I don’t see those P700-Z’s available anymore on discounttiredirect.com.

If you want to cheat in Solo II with “street” tires you can get Falken Azenis since their treadwear rating is above the threshold for being considered an R-compound. They’re also only 44 bucks a pop in our size. They’re useless in the rain though.

1010tires.com
-Yokohama A520: $70.99
-Pirelli P7000: $87.99
discounttiredirect.com
-Falken Azenis: $44

tirerack.com
-Pirelli P7000: $65
-Yokohama AVS-i: $64

Sears
-Pirelli P8000 Vizzola V-rated: $79.97

Although I like my P8000 Vizzolas I’m pretty the P7000 is intended to be a higher-performance tire. I’m not sure though. If you called up a local Sears and asked them, “What’s a better tire, the P8000 Vizzola or the P7000?” they might be able to tell you something. Whether or not that has any credence to it remains to be seen.

I’m a cheap bastard, so its a good thing I have 14" wheels. I’d go with Perelli p700s or some other sub$50 Perellis. I’ve got those 700s on a set of 15’s. Either that or some Khumos. Hrrmmm Dunlop makes some 8000’s in 195/55-14 too… Yummy size but you’ll pay @75$ each.

You can try tirerack.com but keep in mind those mounting and balancing costs. Usually local places dont have a problem with the fact that you bought online. Sometimes they have a chip and charge more or refuse you outright.

Tirerack has a huge database of places that will let you have your tires drop shipped to them.

Sweet. I haven’t needed to check that out yet. Good information to know.

Woops, I overlooked where you said you had the stock GS-R wheels. Neither of the tires I suggested are made for a 14". Sorry Mr. Fat… they do still carry the P700s just not in a 14"
One nice thing about tire rack is you can compare any tires side by side. (Or at least the numbers)

OUCH! I just looked at the selection for stock size…pretty grim.

i like the p7000 but i’m going to have to talk to my mom about it :)… thanks for hte help everyone

how are michellens? ( don’t know if i spelled that right :stuck_out_tongue: )

Are you just baiting us?

huh?

I meant SOL1D about the Michellins. Was he baiting us to go off on Michellins.
I had the XGTs on the 99Si rims I bought and on the GSR wheels when I bought the integra. They really suck ass.

Michelin’s…if you bought em…you paid too much!

what about the falken azeins? Anyone have personal experience with those?

I kinda like the michellins… My gf used to have 215/45/17 Kuhmo Supra (I have the 205/45/17) on my car but my gf decided to go back to her stock 15" on her accord and got Pilot XGT H4
in 205/60/15 and I swear they hold up just as well as the kuhmos did… But I hated the stock michellins that came on our integras…

Michelins are way expensive.

Falken Azenis is a “cheater R-compound” in that it’s designed for track and autocross (it’s similar to the Yoko A032R and Kumho Victoracer) but its treadwear rating is high enough that it’s legal for SCCA stock class. It will not be very fun in the rain.

I’m never buying any Michellin tires again. Ever. Even for my bikes. I used to have xgtv4 or whatever tires. Gawd.

Thanks for the tip on the falkens, for 44 bux each I’ll give them a try next tire change. “It never rains in so cal” hehe
