new to this site and my 93 da9.

Im josh from savannah ga. although i had a 3rd gen teg about a yr ago i sold it like a dumbass… i felt the bug bite again so i bought a 93 da9 about 2 weeks ago. luuuuv the 2nd gens. but im afraid it has been molested. the body isnt in bad shape but the motor has a blown head gasket and is need of a clutch. its a 93 car but has b18a with a s1 tranny. from research the 93 came with a ys1 tranny? i dunno like i said im new to this realm but ive been searching these threads for aver a week and immediatly knew this was the place for me. the engine bay is a NIGHTMARE… as you can see in the pics. looks like it had a turbo at one time since the frame under the radiator had been cut. it also has an apexi timer and air/fuel meter. its lowered on lowering springs. not sure which kind since its too low for my jack to fit under… lol. BUT im sellin my truck and gettin funds right to get this da clean. im thinkin white rota track rs? tell me wat yall think. but be gentle… lol im a rookie. but im a lil mechanically inclined and i only do things right… even if it take me 2 or 3 trys… lol. but yall pleez look at the pix and tell me wat you think. the car looks like it was thrown together 3 days befor i bought it… bolts missing EVERYWHERE.

[/IMG]

[/IMG] this is the distibutor n the car… obviously he wrong one…

[/IMG] this is my fast idle thermo valve… with non of the coolant lines hooked up…

[/IMG] this is where the frame under the radiator was cut… maybe to fit a turbo??

[/IMG] engine bay.

[/IMG] after i gutted it.

these fckin pics… maybe its cuz i have a mac computer. any tips on how to get these pics up? i have several high quality shots.

try getting a photobucket account, You can upload your pics from there and then copy & paste onto here… Like this-

I removed the last bracket so you see how the IMG code looks, here it is with the last bracket in…

Welcome aboard, and don’t sweat it, someone here will help you no problems :salute:

photobuckets easiest and welcome to the site

dope. ill do that wen i get in tonight. thnx. you will see more of me in the help threads!! lol cuz i need tons.

'93 LS Integras DID come with a YS1 trans… But as it turns out, the Special Edition Integras came with the S1. There is a JDM version of the S1 that has really short gears, like those of a '99 Civic Si or a Type-R… But sadly the only way to know for sure which you have would be to pull it out and start counting gear teeth…

Well, I guess you COULD use a Honda Transmission Calculator, pull up the LS S1, and the JDM S1 and check your RPM at a given speed, and see which trans you have… That might be the easiest way to get an idea, that is, if you really want to know.

Otherwise, MOAR pics!!! And any other questions, i’ll do my best to help out, as will most others on this forum. Welcome aboard!

well come to the site hope you find all your da needs here

well come to the family

Welcome! :d

the gears feel similar to the 3rd gen LS i had. but the motor is super torquey. so it i get tons of wheel spin and the it tacks out quik in 1st and 2nd. but i come out of 3rd at about 65 mph at roughly 6500 rpm. im startin my photobuckett account now so pics will be up momentarily. i also read that the 90 and 91 tegs had the s1 tranny with a smaller main shaft (or wat ever u call it.) the guy i bought it from said it had a motor swap but who knows. could i be able to tell wat year model motor i have by the ecu?

The ecu won’t tell you which motor you have… if you look right above the exhaust manifold (header) there will be three stamped circles on the cylinder head… the stamp closest to the passenger (distributor) side should tell you the year… if its stamped 9/1 its a '91… if its 9/9, its a '99, etc. If the block is stamped B18B, then that’s a '94+ motor. If its a B18a, that’s a 90-93 DA motor.

You can put more than one image per post… try putting about 8-10 pictures per post.

And you can Edit your first post and add the pictures to that. This way all your pictures could be on your first post rather than halfway down the page.

the body is in decent shape and the car runs. it deff needs attentionin the engine bay. ( as u can see). i have the front bumper but i took it off and sanded it down cuz it was a horrible shade of blue that didnt match anything else on the car.( just like the valve cover)

definitely needs some TLC. Love the color, though. The body appears to be in overall good shape, so I’d focus 100% of the attention on getting that engine and engine bay up to par.

Shouldn’t take too much work to get this thing looking great.

ya i knew it had potential… and the motor is a 90 model. wat are the dissadvantages to this model over the 93 model?

I think the only disadvantage is the camshafts… I think the '93 had slightly more aggressive cams, which yielded slightly more torque. When I say slightly more tq, I mean like 4ft/lbs. Nothing crazy.

The earlier transmissions also used a smaller mainshaft, so the '90-91 trans uses a different clutch than the '92-01 Integras.

But as far as modifications etc… any. B18a or B18b is capable of the same power, and are virtually the same block/head. So its no ‘disadvantage’ to have the '90-spec block versus the '01 spec block.

The 92-93 integra LS engines are different in that they are obd1, and there are minor differences in the casting of the head and block, and where some of the sensors hook up.
And yes they have better cams too.

Do you mean the 1991 LS Special or the 1993 LS Special, because my 1993 Special had a YS1. Also, since I love semantics, neither the 91 nor 93 were called a special editions unlike the 1988 and 1995 Integras which were known as SE or “Special Edition.”

jshtllmn – welcome! That engine bay isn’t that bad! It may take some time to get get rid of that damn MSD crap, but should be worth it. It looks like the hose and reservoir for the power steering is still there, you could probably add that back in pretty cheap since lots of people rip that out. Although if you already removed the interior, you probably don’t care about power steering very much…

Many headers require notching of that front cross member, it is possible that is why it is cut out.

But yeah, get rid of the MSD stuff, clean up the power steering, get you an arm for the intake, a cover for that fuse box, fix up those ground wires, take off those damn red and white badges and you’ve got a pretty decent ride there! Looks like a very fun project. The 92-93 LS is the best street Integra in my opinion.

I’d be interested to see what is going on with the wiring by the brake booster. The picture is fuzzy but it seems like there is something odd going on there…

thnk for all your input guys. i went to the emergency room the other dy for abdominal pains and the said i had appendicitis. so they took my appendix out… lol. so im out of commission for afew days… but ill be bak on it wen i heal up… and i dont rally care bout power steering… or AC… lol. down here in ga it doesnt get that cold… and ill jusr role the windows down in the summer… lol. sry if this doesnt make sense… im hevily mediated…

To be honest I’m simply going off of the diagram that is on the FF-Squad/Specnically Speaking transmission chart… or moreso, my interpretation of their chart. And DAMN your semantics, boy!

But what I DO know for fact is that there are long and short gear’d versions of the S1… The same goes for the YS1.

Hopefully you heal up nice and quick… I hate surgeries, no matter how simple they are… shudder

But even if you dont want the AC or PS… You should definitely pay some attention on said systems and pull that crap all the way out so its not just taking up space. The bay would look much more clean and simple with that stuff either fully installed, or fully removed… that half and half stuff has got to go

I agree with buymysoul though… Pull that MSD crap out of there. Replace the distributor if needed, but get it out of your bay. Stock Honda ignition systems are capable of handling 500+whp, MSD is verymuch NOT needed on most any street-going Honda.

ya i know about the MSD stuff. it was on the car wen i bought it… ill rock it till it tears up… 1st thing on the list is a clutch and a head gasket… since im bed ridden, ill prolly order the parts tomorrow and let my mechanic put them in. even after that, im sure theres vacume leaks and i gotta figure out where the coolant lines come from that go to the fast idle thermo valve. so while im on the couch ill be looking through the repair manual to figure all that out.
