i got a new turbo kit for my ls and the oil feed and discharge were in the wrong positions so i twisted the housings to match where they were on my old one. now i have some shaft play and i’m not sure if i should rip it apart to try and fix it or if there is another way.there are no miles on the new turbo so wear is definately not the problem. please help i’m going out of my mind.
how excessive is it? a new turbo w/o oil in it, will have a little play. once the oil is in the bearings, the shaft play should go away.
hth…
you are kidding right? a new turbo comes balanced with ZERO play. keep smokin those rocks…
yes pull it apart and make sure its lined up correctly.

ok, so when you put a motor together, whats the point of plasti guaging rod or main bearings? why not just bolt em tight together? think about what your saying.
back to the OP - so was there no play before you clocked it? is this a bb turbo? the compressor wheel should never hit the housing, does it? like i said, a “little” is normal. also, are you refering to side-to-side, or in-out play? i’m talking about side-to-side. you should never have in-out.

I think both of you are just misunderstanding each other when you are saying zero play. You probably are both thinking the same thing and arguing about it hahaha.
bigger turbos’ have lil shaft play at first… my t3/t40e had some when i first got it… end of story
yes it’s a t3/t04e turbo and it is only little side to side play. i took it apart just to be sure nothing was wrong and of course i couldn’t find anything wrong , so after putting it together i figured it was because of the lack of oil.thanks to everyone for the help. and if anyone knows why the hell my car shakes in low rpms while getting on it in 4th and 5th, i’ll take the tips. it’s pushing 260 horse with the shitty old turbo but has amazing power. if your on it than there is no vibration it’s only when you pussy footing it.
could be a bad tie-rod end, a bad ball joint, or a bad axle.
the turbo is not a ball bearing turbo. i pulled it apart and there are two cylindrical type bearings and it seems that they both have a little play and nothing is hitting the housings. as far as the shaking goes, i was thinking it was ball joints because when your balls to the wall the entire front of the car lifts and gets squirly, but that could be the 9 lbs of boost i’m pushing cause it likes to smoke 1-4th. i don’t think its an axle because there is no clicking or other obvious noises. could it be that i don’t have ps??
everything is in, running fine, no more turbo play, and it’s sooooooo much better than a log piece of shit. you know what log stands for… LOAD OF GARBAGE. mine is cracked in like 5 places, and it had no wastegate flange. how can something that small and simple crack in 5 places?? easy THEY SUCK ASSHOLE.
it’s normal and nothing to worry about. side to side is ok, but not in and out. my brand new sc61 has side to side but then again it has a .70 comp. a/r
i have a brand new gt2560r and it has shaft play as well. side to side but very little which i understand is normal. but it also has in/out play and it feels like its more play then the side to side. what could be the cause of this on a new turbo??
