Well little history on the car, might help those know more about my problem.
My DB1 sat for almost 2 yrs.
Finally my DD took a crap on me so I decided to give my DB the deserve attention it needed.
Found a used motor at a price I just couldnt pass up.
Since then I’ve replaced many things in order to try to solve the WEIRD unknown issue i have.
Replaced the following:
Used D-series distributor
new distibutor rotor
new distributor cap
New spark plugs (but not wires /
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
The issue:
The motor feels like it lacks power, once you get up @ 4k it runs normal.
From time to time when i come to a stop the motor wont rev up.
It doesnt do it often, just once a day or once every time I drive it then turn off the engine.
Last know time it did this know issue was when I went to my local gas station. Car drove fine there. No hesitation or anything, felt a little sluggish though.
stopped to pump gas.
Got back into the car turned it on like normal.
Tried to take off and NO GO.
I had my foot on the gas all the way down to the metal.
Yet the RPMs remained the same, at idle, as if i didnt even have my foot on the gas.
After a minute or 2 the RPMs finally start to rise and I shifted into 1st and proceeded on home.
Here the other thing that i find very weird.
If I push the distributor all the way to the back, i believe this is advance timing.
The motor runs like a champ, no hesitation, no sluggishness.
& doesnt do the know issue i stated above.
The only thing with this is that it consumes gas like a MOFO!!!
Filled up a full gas tank and drove it with the distributor all the was push towards the rear and the car ran superd.
But only got like a total of 90 miles out of that full gas tank.
So hope this explains my issue guys.
Tried to explain the bestest possible way.
If anyone needs more info let me know.
Besides this know issue I been loving driving my DB1 again.
Its a major change from my 4wheel steering 91 PRELUDE.
That’s the thing I don’t get any codes.
Someone suggested me to swap out ecu’s.
The tps could be a pissibility, since the I’M was already on the motor when I bought it.
I still have my old I’M from the original motor tat went kaboom

Is your mechanical timing right? The distributor/timing may be the issue. Check your timing and try swapping distributors with someone you know.
Usually if you touch something on your car and it seems to run a little better after you touch it that part is related to whats causing the issue.
common guys there has to be some knowledgeable ppl on this forum.
BUMP
need this problem solved!!!

absolutely check for codes, even if the mil isn’t illuminated.
check your ignition timing.
if that’s spot on, i’d test the tps
check the ignition timing. if mechanical timing is off, it will show. it sounds like you’ve jumped a tooth or 2
Thanx guys, I was leaning towards that, because when timing was set right it ran funny and sluggish. But when i would advance it ran like a champ.
The car does have a bad ICU, but that has nothing to do with engine management.
I was already leading towards something mechanical, cause thru the month i drove it after i got her running it never gave me any CELS.
I will inspect my timing today when I get off work at 7am lol.
Thanx againg for the replies guys.
Hope to get back at ya’ll with positive feedback and hopefully some pics
ok 3 things
1.check your ignition timing.—timing light–3marks on your crank pulley
2.check your mechanicail timing-crank pulley to TDC and make sure came gears are aligned equally with “UP” ARROWS
3.faulty/worn tps.–get an oscilloscope…any breaks in the voltage lines while opening and closing your throttle slowly…indicates a worn spot on the tps…get a new one.
thats just breifly…
lets us knoww:)
I HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT WAS MY TIMING BELT IT JUMPED A ONE TOOTH ON THE CAM GEARS
I would think to check the injectors. if your only getting 90 miles per tank of gas. The gas has to be going somewhere. Maybe the sluggish feeling is from a leaky injector(s). It floods the engine just enough to where when you change the timing. It has enough time to ignite all the fuel in the cylinders. I maybe wrong but its worth looking into. If you pull the plugs out. It should tell you whats going on in the engine if you read it correctly.
I tried to set the timing on it this morning, but was unable to do so.
I dont know if it was me being tired from work and the lack of sleep, but i just couldnt get to set right.
Any tips or suggestions on how to set the T-belt properly would be appreaciated.
just loosen the tensioner. theres a removable plug on your timimg cover that will expose the tensioner bolt. after its loose use a screw driver to line up the pulley.
Well like I stated I removed the T-belt off, there was no other way of settin it right.
The cams are locked in place, and the BOTTOM end is at TDC.
The tensioner is loose.
I put the T-belt on, re tighten tensioner, and it jumps a tooth.
Once i do my rotations COUNTER clockwise
I been following these steps, and yes i OWN a oem manual
The motor I purchased it off someone who was swapping it out because they were going Vtec so he had no need for it anymore.
He mentioned he did a HEADGASKET job.
Once I recieved the motor and did further inspection I concluded that he indeed do a HEADGASKET job.
It looks freshly dont IMO, you can also see that it has NEW water pump on there too.
But upon further inspection of the T-belt it seems as he used the old one, and didnt buy the new one.
With that being said I’m leaning towards the stretch T-belt and POSSIBLY faulty tensioner.
Yes I’ve searched my issue and all the found threads lead to NO real answer to my problem.
