no wastegate!!

allrighty then peeps…my buddy just gave me a eclipse turbo but the waste-gate is gone, should i git the stock one or can i run a external wastegate? i know the stock one runs 12psi thats to much so if i git the stock one can i lower the psi?

You’ve got a few things to learn about boost my friend.

If you don’t get a wastegate at all, the turbo will keep spooling till either: you get nasty fuel cuts/detonation, or something breaks!

If the turbo is setup for a stock internal gate, and you want to run an external gate, you would have to either weld the hole for the flapper shut, or get a different exhaust housing that doesn’t have a hole for a WG flap.

If I were you, I would just get another stock wastegate and call it done.

just get a new turbo. You will need a custom mani and if u upgrade later u a stuck. Get the wastegate and sell it for 75$.

Actually my friend, you have a few things to learn about boost. If the wastegate is not on the turbo, the flapper will not stay shut and you won’t build any boost at all. Without the wastegate actuator there is nothing to hold the flapper shut. The situation you’re talking about is if the flapper was wired or welded shut. In that situation it would build boost until the turbo couldn’t flow anymore. A friend of mine maxed around 26psi on a 14b with the flapper wired shut.

Anyway, my wastegate actuator was busted when I got the turbo and I got another one for free from a friend. Search around some DSM boards and you should find one for super cheap. No sense in buying a new turbo when you can get a new actuator for $10.

Guess I should have been more specific. I thought that he thoght the turbo would only go to 12lbs and a wastegate would allow it to go lower, which is why I said what I said about the turbo boosting too high.

Your friend who maxed out his 14b probably had it on a DSM with the accomadating fuel system which would allow it to reach 26psi. See what happens when you max out one of those on a honda motor without sleeves or at least a block guard and some large injectors.

I apologize for my first post, i misunderstood :frowning:

pay not attention to this post. i meant to edit my last one, not add another

Well of course it was on a DSM and it would kill a Honda motor

The only point I was trying to make is that you have to do something to hold the flapper shut, and then in that case it will build as much boost as it can flow. No hard feelings.

if you are really interested in getting a new wastegate u could go to a junkyard and prolly find one for 10 bucks maybe less… but inspec the turbine housing and wastegate flapper before you go buying another wastegate…
if the turbing housing is indeed shot u will notice a crapload of hairline cracks all near the turbing outlet. The wastegate flapper on internally gated turbos have a tendency to carbon up overheat and crack intime they actully break apart soo make sure all of these componets are good soo u dont have to worry later on in the game…
since u got it from a buddy id stick with a internal gate get a cheap manifold and run with that untill u plan on upgrading… cause welding it up and buying an external gate for a custom DSM-to-honda manifold just isnt worth it especially when ur addicted to boost and are in need of an upgrade.
as for running 26 PSI… WHY? stock 14b’s should never see that kinda boost they will run extreamly hot inturn endanger ur engine and eventully just smoke themselves they are single scroll stock turbos
toyota CT-26’s shouldnt even see near that and they are considerably larger and a 5 blade dual scroll design…
