i remember seeing that an o2 sensor was $20-$30… every where i call gives me different figures… the cheapest i found was $69.99 at autozone …? What gives ?
Bosch Universal O2 sensor. $20 at Kragen and Pepboys. Check there.

these things fit?
Yup. Thats what Universal means. I put it in my car and it works perfectly.

So can one install one of these $20 universal O2 sensors in an OBD1 GSR?
Mine was starting to go bad, about a year ago, but I’ll wait till I start throwing codes.
No… once again… obd1 are heated o2 sensors… non obds are non heated… therefore cheaper!
Bosch Universal ? cuz i haven’t yet been under the car … is my O2 sensor a 3 or 2 or 1 wire ?

True, but I thought there was an alternative to the $1,000,000 Gold Plated O2 sensor Acura sells to replace the heated one.

Yours is the heated 4 wire OBD-1 version.
If you get a Bosch replacement, the part number is:
15710 (with OEM connector) or
15730 (universal)
With the latter one (which is cheaper), you will have to cut your old connector plug and splice it with the new O2 sensor which is complete with instructions and the hardware to do that.
just got back from Schucks Auto… and they quoted me 79 bucks for the O2 sensor for my 92 gs-r
where is the O2 sensor and what does it do?
ARCHIVETHIS
isnt it really difficult to change the o2 sensor on our cars? i heard they are a bitch to come off… i have a 92 ls, where is the 02 sensor located on my car?
thanks
b1tch if you never took it off since the car was bought… follow your headder down and you’ll see the sensor sticking out… unscrew, unplug and that’s it.
Eric: can I install a $20 O2 sensor in my car? You never answered my question.
Oops… I am not sure if there’s a special wiring trick… but ours is a 4 wire… the universal is 3… Not really sure… sorry…

GSpeedR, the $20 O2 sensor sounds too cheap to be an OBD-1 sensor and I suspect it is simply the non-OBD, 1-wire one. You need the OBD-1 3 or 4 wire sensor.
You can use a universal 3 wire OBD-1 O2 sensor on our car. The 4th wire (green) on the OEM sensor that is missing on the universal 3-wire is the ground. To connect this wire is optional if you have a good ground on your B-pipe which the electrical signal can give a return path to via the O2 sensor casing. So yes - you can use a universal 3-wire aftermarket O2 sensor wire, but the 4-wire gives you piece of mind that there will always be a good ground for the O2 sensor.
The Bosh universal part that I listed above is a 4-wire version (with ground wire) and can attach to all 4 wires of the OEM connector. HTH.

for my 92ls (4-wire obd1 heated o2 sensor) i got an o.e. style sensor for 50$ shipped (o.e. style in the fact that it comes with a plug-no splicing)
got to me in a bout a week! waay cheaper than what the stealership wanted
Does a heated sensor:
- sense heat?
- give off heat?
- is it resistent to heat?
Ive: are the Boshe O2s heated?
BTW Eric: don’t worry about me, I’m just being stupid.
