Sup guys i’m going to start a boost build pretty soon and i have a gsr cable tranny that i’m goin to use. I have good and bad thing about obx, but is anyone on here running thier lsd in thier tranny?
I’ve never had an OBX ,but I hear Quaife is the best on the market. I had a Phantom LSD in my GSR swapped CRX and it was pretty good.
The company is called Quaife.
Oops, i knew that. Fixed
I’ve read some things at various places around the internet (Honda forums mostly) about OBX LSDs taking a big dump on people, sometimes right after install. I have no personal experience with them but if you’re going to go LSD, might as well do it right and get a Quaife. That might mean spending close to a grand on it…but if that means it will work right the first time, that’s great, you don’t want to have to keep taking your transmission apart to fix it.
i heard it isnt too bad, but when you get it you have to open it up and check how it was put together and clean it. from what i read there’s shavings and inconsistently torqued bolts.
the article’s somewhere on h-t.
If you have a GS-R YS1 cable transmission, with a few simple modifications you can use an OEM Honda LSD.
Look into it. It will be much more economical than buying a Quaife, and much more reliable than an OBX.

Basically all you have to do shave the webbing from the casing to make the diff seat all the way. Thats all I had to do anyway.
Im using a OBX LSD in the EF we have. Its a built LS with a Stage 3 IHI WRX turbo (just shy of 300 on the ground). Its got 4 autox seasons on it with absolutly zero issues. Theres been numorous days where the car had 4 drivers in one day too. I wouldnt hesitate a second to buy another. Its a exact ripoff of the Quaife. The only issues Ive heard from a first hand user was that some of the bolts werent tight when he got it. Other than that everybody I know with one is happy with it.
Input like that ^ builds faith in a product… especially coming form a member like you.
is having LSD on a daily-driver even worth it?
Hell yes.
Everytime I push my car near its limit and feel “peg leg” I wish I would’ve made sure my engine came with an LSD transmission.
…and I pretty much push my daily driver near its limit DAILY.
Last night it was the 270 degree, upward decreasing radius interchange of the 110 North to the 105 West. This is a turn in which my best friend and I flipped his B18C-R equipped EH2. It’s a pretty gnarly curve.
I hardly ever push my car to the limits only because I really cannot afford anymore tickets. I always wanted to have LSD but I don’t think I drive my car hard enough to NEED it. Ya know?
I push my car to its limit in places that there will be ABSOLUTELY NO POLICE. I don’t speed on the freeway, but once the offramps and interchanges come, I’m usually doubling the posted speed warnings.
An LSD is almost useless in an FF if you’re not cornering or decelerating hard.
I didn’t kno that i can use an oem lsd. But shenrie shows that he or any of his friends haven’t had any problems with the obx.
“I pretty much push my daily driver near its limit DAILY.”
Love that statement! That’s how I drive.
I going to get a LSD… prolly a OEM into my YS1.
I’m going to look at B16A2 tonight… if looks good…I’ll be a B16A on boost!
Get a OBX!!! The only issues I found on H-T is the stuck axle issue…which OBX released a revision to the LSD, the only issue they havent fixed to this day, is those weak a$$ Beliville washers they have, and you can get those changed by Rbryant on H-T with stronger ones along with new bolts if the ones you have are stripped. the OBX withstands mroe abuse than the OEM hands down. cheeck H-T to see for yourself.
Cool thanks smoke i’ll hit him up on h-t for prices.
Smoke, thats some good stuff…
thanks.
