i was curious if anyone has an odyssey battery hooked up with a subwoofer and an amp hooked up to it. will that little battery be able to sustain the sound system and the car or will i need to just keep the normal size battery for this.
the only additional things i have hooked up electrically in my car will be the 12" sub and the 1500w amp… no gauges or random lights or anything like that…
I wouldn’t recommend it. Even though the amp is only fused at 30-40 amps its still bound to make your lights dim without enough reserve capacity. Take a step up in either alternator or battery and you should be fine. If not you’re bound to put a strain on that amp and blow it.
Having your alternator built by a starter re manufacture company would suit you just fine. Anything above 100a at idle would be perfect for what you are doing. A capacitor isn’t going to help at all. It stores energy and releases it in quick bursts. Your amp has a few of them in it. An extra battery would help you out or just getting a bigger odyssey. But you would need to charge them every once in a while to keep their battery life.
I see. For me to get a bigger odyssey would mean i would have to mount it some other way. I already have the bracket and the battery. It would also involve me buying ANOTHER battery.
So the alternator route seems like the best option. Who do you recommend i go through to get That done? What are the price ranges for something like that?
I’ve got a place down the road from my shop. He said something around $170 for a stock honda casing to be built up to 170a. But you don’t need that much so I’d say less than 150+shipping. East Orlando remanufacture
Up grade the alt. to the biggest one you can get/fit/afford, do the “big 3” wire upgrade, if not already done replace amp power lead fuse and holder with ANL fuse and fuse holder, use proper size ring terminals that are soldered to the power and ground cables of the amp, keep amp ground cable as short as possible, ground to floor pan of car, [seat and seat belt bolts/studs work the best, “beef up” the batt. to chassis ground, [use same gauge as the amps ground] add it from the batt. terminal clamp to the shock tower or frame rail.
Stay away from any “pimp my audio system” “gold” terminals/fuses/fuse holders, [there is not enough gold in/on any of it to short circuit the dynamo on a fireflys ass.
Pico brazed seam ring terminals.
Basic stud type ANL fuse holder.
Arc welding cabe is the best thing you can use for amp power and ground cable. 94
Looking at $170 for an alt that does 140a. 170 is the max but I wouldn’t suggest it since the components will heat up and there’s not much room in a stock casing. Comes with a 1 year warranty and is a direct fit, unlike mine where I needed to modify the bottom and top brackets to fit. Only thing you’ll need is a smaller alt belt. 1/2" smaller should do fine.
wow… almost 200 for an alternator… hmmm… thanks for looking. i will get back to you. if thats how much it will cost, then i will wait to put my odyssey in and just keep the regular battery for now. if i can find a nice battery box i may just go ahead and put the thing in the trunk and then i wont need the odyssey and i would have wasted money buying it…
More than double the stock the amperage of a stock alternator for less than double the price. It’s fair. If you’re talking about a wet cell battery and sticking it in a battery box in the back of your integra, that’s not advisable. When charging wet cell batteries give off poisonous gases that are also highly flammable.
i know about the gas ans stuff… i thought thats what the battery box was for. i seen some with little drain tubes on them.
but if i wanted to just go ahead and buy another odyssey, which drycell would you recommend for the trunk to be able to handle the sound system and be good for regular stuff. they have a bunch of different “full size” batteries…
