I believe that thing has something to do with startup. Something like it drawing air from inside the engine bay until it warms up, I can’t quite remember though.
IIRC, its just another measure to keep the noise down. I know a few Preludes that have similar chambers. I COULD be mistaken, but when I had my stock intake, mine had that as well…
That doesn’t make any sense. The engineers aren’t going to design an intake which draws air from the outside w/o first running thru a filter. That chamber isn’t open to the outside.
If I had to take a random guess at it’s purpose:
Noise Reduction. By changing the shape and volume of the air supply system it can change the sound of the intake system. Same reason there is a resonator located in the bumper area below the airbox.
Extra air supply. Not meaning that you can draw in more air, but that there is more air on “reserve” when needed. Air that’s already been pulled thru the filter and is available at anytime you step on the gas. They say that’s the reason why the J’s style intake is so fat, there’s more air between the filter and the TB, which supposedly helps with throttle response. (*that’s what I’ve heard, I don’t know how realistic of a concept that is).
Regardless of the reason, it doesn’t much matter. You can use it on any engine you put in your DA, it’s not going to make any noticeable difference. I’ve ran it on vtec and non vtec engines and never knew the difference.

Fair enough I probably should have done a little research before I answered that lol
I’m fairly confident that it was on most 92-93 tubes, if not all.
If your car is a 92-93 and your OEM intake didn’t have that, it might have been possible that the intake had been modified at one point, and prior to you buying the car, the owner sourced an OEM intake with the 90-91 tube, and 92-93 airbox?
also it is for a 5spd, you know why, see that little metal tube that sticks out, there is only 1,
the automatic intake tube has 2
90-91 5spd had two tubes on the intake as well, not just automatics.

that little box is for water when it gets thirsty
And where did you source that info? The airbox resonator already has a drain hole.
I had always assumed it was a GSR thing… but wasn’t sure since I’ve never owned a 92-93 rs/ls/gs. Well, except the race car, but I never saw that intake.
but look, check out the air filter box, does 90-91 have that
with the metal little tubes, just from my experience, cause i’m on my 3rd da and I’ve never owned a 90-91. all my 92-93 came with 1 metal tube except for my gs since it came with a aem so I bought a oem intake from a guy who owned a 92 db1 automatic and it had 2 metal hoses. but oh well, its for all, and it all works the same.
