i have a 92 gsr im wanting to boost about 7 psi. its stock but compression test were good across the board. but ive herd alot of people say not to boost the b17a, is there a reason for this? thanks
i wouldnt see any reason not to, go for it. just get someone good to tune.
I say do it. 10 psi on like a .60/.63 would be very fun.
Yep it’s ok
ok, i wonder why people say that. is it ok to still use the 8,000 factory redline, or do i need to be more conservative?
Factory redline is fine. When you get tuned the tuner can change where your rev limiter is. I dont know much about GSR’s but that can probley safely rev higher. I wouldnt want to but im just saying.
People tell you not to boost the 17 because its the rare unicorn of honda motors. Its compression isn’t too high ( in contrast to b16,b18c1) but its completely up to you. I say keep it stock and keep it forever
Chances are you won’t make huge pwoer past stock redline so its not worth reving alot higher. The CR on that motor is 9.6 I believe? Which is just right IMO. Not too low or too high. Just tune it well. As the B17 is somewhat rare, it’s really no different then a B16. just slightly stroked B16. same Cam profiling etc etc
tech u r the man . seems u no soooooo much about boosting.my car was build by a shop which is my good friend.the bottom is build with aries piston i think eagle rods and balance crank byb the way is a 97 gsr engine.the head is pot n polish with 5 angle valve job allthe ferrier valve components i think the compression is 8:1 585 injectors nology n all kinds of other goodies.im not a machanic or even a person who knows lots about boosting.Just by the info i"ve give u do u think i can make 400-450 whp?also i live in toronto i woudnt mind if u can give me some pointer or advice.thx bro
What’s your email? I’l email you as to keep this thread clean without taking over the thread lol.
Its still only available in the 92-93 gsr, and when it blows its gone you’ll never find another one regardless of its similarities to the b16 (and lets face it when you pop your hood b16’s are a dime a dozen in this body style). You should talk to a local tuner on what he feels is appropriate for your horsepower goals, that way you can build around getting the best powerband for your horsepower goals. Good luck with your build,if your going with a higher end motor like you said please be safe and cautious.
sell the b17a1 then ebay a built ls/vtec for the turbo, that way you won’t be persecuted for killing a b17a1… nuff said
i think ill just stay n/a on the b17a for now, i kinda wanna restore my car all to stock and make it super clean, then ill work on the performance, right now im removing al the shaved moldings and finding molsing for the car, and going to have a quality paint job. the previouse owner did some dumb looking stuff to it he must have been a ricer
it will be fine , i had my 92 gsr 1.7 turbo then the oil flange cracked and spun a rod bearing , after winter im gonna returbo it
I am gettin a new head gasket for my b17 and is it ok to turbo it and push 6 psi with stock internals and passing the compresion test? i just wanna know if that could be used as a daily driver.
Yes
