Old super street magazine article(yellow) 93 gsr
lol, a bodega is the corner store.
Basically, is where you go to get anything from a loosie to a roll of “paper toilet” ← you have to be a Rican to understand that one.
In the hood, you didn’t have a lot of supermarkets and being that we were poor you didn’t buy things in abundance. The bodegae had 1 video game, for us it was Robotron. You can also play the “numbers”, a form of lottery for poor people in the hood or even play poker and collect actual winnings from a machine that was hidden in the back of the store.
I remember going to the bodegae for my friend momz, to buy her a pack of Winston.
Yes, they didn’t ask me for ID back then, but I get carded now.
The was a beer called "Private Stock, sold in quarts and Calvin Coolers which was the OG hood drinks.
Man…I can go on for days and days with rhymes that engraves as deep as x-rays.
Damn. Lotto, Poker? Loosies? 711 used to have videos games back in the day, but no more. Used to kill cats with my Ken/Ryu, Guuile or even Dhalsim oogaaa FLAME! 711 got real good nachos though!!! With chilli if you’re gangsta!

Wish we had some here in SoCal. Our hood drinks are basically, Colt 45, Mickeys & OE

What we have that is native SoCalian is “Gold Daytonas on my cherry Six four” - Game

ohhhh…I remember these…I wanted a set of those back in the day!!!

Old English was the old people beer. Ewww!
Phillie Blunts was the only shit you blunted with, maybe a White Owl.
EZ-Wider was the for the jizoints.
Tray Bags…Nickle Bags…
“numbers” =lotto for the hood.
loosies = 1 stogie for 10 cents.
And the poker machine what was hidden in the back of the store.
When you are ready to collect, you call the guy what worked the counter and show him the amount on the machine and he’ll pay you out of the cash register.
There were no 7 Elevens or Circle K till I moved to Florida.
I remember going to the street races before it was frowned upon on internet forums and the guy what use to brake the races was tired from braking so many races.
You only parked up when something broke or you were done for the night.
Some one mentioned that we use to build cars to beat on…not park up.
That statement is the most profound, when speaking of old school.
When the all started, there was more participants then spectators.
Now, they are participants and we are the spectators.

remember their orange CRX? that WAS the JDM of its day…and I remember one of their cars, it was the seafoam green EK, my brother fell in love with that car…

ahh yes, the volvo orange CRX with glass top. It was clean, but it was basically a stock crx as far as looks goes. It stood out though because it was clean, and most likely one of the first glass tops.

speaking of old school. i was at BOTI this past weekend, and they have a car show there now. the winner was a white 4dr EF on 15" exc-fins :werd:

I want those teddy bear rims if anyone has them cheap.

Damn! I’d hella rock those rims, it’d suite me and my car very well

I think someone had a set of those Ronals on nwp a ways back, maybe two months ago. Might still be worth a look

Lol db2, private stock…haffenreffer. It came in green 40’s. We used to drink that shit back in like 93-94 when I was waaaay too young to be drinkin. That and strawberry kiwi MD 20/20. It was green like antifreeze.

Nuff said.

Before you comment globally about what image the DA commands as far as “Industry people”. I AM IN THE INDUSTRY. Believe me, game recognizes game. A clean, old school DA done right turns heads and people who knows whats up are aware. DA’s are NOT taboo or frowned upon in “this industry” you speak of. Maybe Jonathan Wong of Super Street should have not sold his DA or even consider selling his EF because it’s uncool per YOU. You seem to be the authority on whats cool and “un-cool”. Why don’t you school us bro? Educate us on what you say the next new “cool” trend is.

Maybe it’s different in Canada eh?:umno:

Just coz you read a few issues of Super Street and saw the Fast and Furious I, II and (is there even a III?) you just disqualified you from this topic.

Yes, I’m sure none of us here can afford nothing more than this “old” 90’s car.
I wasn’t trying to conceal the fact that im 21 by the way. I am just bothered by the notion (which at times seems like somewhat of an elitist attitude) that if you weren’t involved in the scene back in the day then you have no credit as the owner of da, thats all. You just kind of implied the latter by stating my age and thinking that you had just won or beat me or something. As if you know all about me. I have great respect for those who have been with the scene since the beginning. Most of you are a great inspiration to all of us younger enthusiasts.

I never acted as the authority of what is cool either, I agree with you that “game recognizes game.” I think you mistake what I mean by main-stream. I mean your average joe off the street pop culture type of main stream. Not the import scene mainstream. Maybe it is different up here because I can tell you that ONLY people who know their s*** will ever turn their heads at any of these rides. My point here was in response to that first post that implied 18-20 yr olds mod up these cars just to be cool. Thats just not usually the case up here because like I said if you’re driving this kind of a car regardless of how nice all of us know it is, the MAINstream people don’t think its cool.

What I’m trying to say is that most of the younger crowd aren’t on this site trying to be cool, we actually just love these cars just like you. Especially in my case, because way less people know what they are looking at when I drive by in Southern Ontario or the BC interior than the embedded import scene you’re most likely in down in Cali. I just don’t accept the generalization about “all these kids” trying to be cool. While that may have merit wherever you’re from, thats definately not the case here. Its impossible to be cool by simply having a sick DA/DB/any older honda because the amount of people who know anything about anything is practically nill in comparison to down there. I think I speak for the majority of younger enthusiasts when I say most of us who drive these cars aren’t trying to be cool, we simply love them. As far as commenting globally is concerned I’m afraid to say that that is exactly what you were doing when you stated, “I supremely hate the way things are now.” Like I explained, it may be like that wherever you’re from, but it doesn’t necessarily hold true on a global scale. Anyways thats my .02. Please don’t respond irrationally with trivial accusations about fast and furious.
about yellow DA’s, They always have a special place in my heart because if it weren’t for one of them, I prolly wouldn’t be as hardcore a DA fanatic as I am today.

that Kosuko one was nice at the top, but IMO SSC outdid them with this back in 96.

my inspiration… and favorite DA of all time
Can you scan and post the front cover of this SCC mag?

let’s not forget the commodore 64’s and 128s with the duel floppy’s!
My girls ring tone for when she calls me is Take On Me…one of the songs that I loved back in the hood but couldn’t tell my boy’s that I like it. Now that I’m older, I can proudly rock those songs (music folder = off the wall) Hungry like a wolf is another one of my FAV. I’m still feel a little funny about Boy George…
I do remember having the “fisher” speaker box in one of my RX-7’s back in the days…lolz!!!
Motorola 550flip…cloned!

Well I wouldn’t go too far, I have alot of respect for someone who has developed a passion for a 15-18 year old car. I don’t care if that person is 14 years old. It is “kids” like these that are keeping the cars on the street and not in the junk yard. If you’re driving an early 90’s acura around thinking its the sh** then you can claim old school all you want. Do you guys know how un-cool it is within the main-mainstream to drive one of these cars. People who don’t know just think you are driving some old ass car cuz its all you can afford. Just because some of us were like 6 years old when the last DA rolled off the production line doesn’t make us a second-rate g2 owner. If you lov’em then you lov’em, don’t matter if you’re 15 or 40.

Last time I’m going to comment about this. I’m a little confused regarding the response and should probably be working versus responding to this.

I don’t care if that person is 14 years old. It is “kids” like these that are keeping the cars on the street and not in the junk yard.

True, but I don’t think “kids” are the vast majority. There are lots of DA’s out there not driven by “kids”.

If you’re driving an early 90’s acura around thinking its the sh** then you can claim old school all you want. Do you guys know how un-cool it is within the main-mainstream to drive one of these cars. People who don’t know just think you are driving some old ass car cuz its all you can afford.

That was the comment that really ignited the initial response. Some youngster telling us “seasoned” guys what is cool and what wasn’t. Telling us how UNCOOL it is (per your comment on a mainstream global scale) Like who IS this dude? He’s all of a sudden the authority on global “mainstream” perception? Please understand the reasoning behind the response. Didn’t look good on your part. Maybe I should drive my M3 more often than my (old ass, all I could afford DA. The DA is just more fun to me. If I go out to a bar or club, the E46 gets driven make no mistake.

This is a hobby and project my friend.
Plus you are insinuating that we think we’re the sh*t? Wow.

As far as commenting globally is concerned I’m afraid to say that that is exactly what you were doing when you stated, “I supremely hate the way things are now.”

I never said that. “Supremely”? not my verbiage.

Anywhoo, I think this thread spun off to cats in SoCal who are reminiscing about “our” experiences back in the day. That’s all. Meant no harm. If you read through, there are lots of folks who share the same view as I did and are coming out the woodwork to comment. G2IC was really losing credibility as far as Integra’s are concerned and just known as a site that “kids” frequent. It was just refreshing to know that there ARE old school guys who share the same passion and (experiences) as myself and the dudes @

We never meant to come off as “elitists” although, Barack Obama and I share the same moniker now, that’s kinda cool.

Long winded, I know. But let’s move on.:rockon::rockon::rockon:

Wow…
It looks as if a disagreement was amicably settled on the internet, well done gentlemen. I now can’t stop staring outside my office window looking for the other signs of the Apocalypse.

J.

No disagreement, just mis-understand / communication.

At the end of the day, we’re ALL DA fanatics or else we wouldn’t be here.

You don’t have to be a “DA fanatic” to be here. Don’t generalize.

There are people who are here to help out who don’t even have a DA or is a fanatic. Ex. FCM, who has provided countless tech info on electronics, and I’m sure many would not like to see him gone just because he isn’t a “DA fanatic”.
