Car started to act badly.
My headgasket is a cometic, i know their bad reputation.
When i cruise for a while temp goes high but do not pass halfway, if i stand about 5 minutes at idle when car is really warm, temp will go back and forth beyond halfway. But when i floor it ( 10psi ) overflow bottle will be full, temp will go all way to the right and there will be coolant missing on my rad.
I think this might be the headgasket, but my compression numbers are 210 210 205 180 ( 180 still good in the + - 15percent region ). As I said, cruising is not a problem, boost is. Is it possible that boost gets into the coolant ?
No mixing in oil or watsoever, didnt realize any white smoke since im on the car when it overheats
Next diagnostic is a leakdown… keep you posted.
could also be air in the system.
you can have a coolant leak somewhere too. if you find nothing on your leakdown, my next step would be to get the coolant system pressure tested. my upper coolant hose looked like a balloon but I have bigger problems than you do. Gl on your finds and let us know what it is so we can learn…
tested with 110 psi of compressed air.
Bubbles will appear on cylinder 1-3-4.
I will try to loosen my head and retorque it to ARP specs. If it gives no result, ill be changing the HG with a GE one, less prone to failure as i’ve been told.
oem makes oversized gaskets ? 81.5 i need
GE uses OEm headgaskets to cut them to whatever size you need.
the retorquing seems to have helped for today, no overheating !!
i’ll keep you posted
update
After driving for a while, i decided to push it to the limit.
When i get into biig boost and high revs, it will start overheating but as soon as i drop the pedal it will cool down rapidly, not like it was doing before.
this is really weird… Oh by the way, I dont have a thermostat, It broke before and i decided not to put one since my car is not working during the winter and i dont need hot air inside the car.
Maybe this will help , i’ll buy one and see whaat it does.
