ok guys, i have a civic half rad and heres my problem. when i sit around in town or do stop and go driving the car is absolutly fine. however as soon as i get onto the highway the car immeadiatly overheats? i have no idea why its doing this and was wondering if anyone could help? thanks alot!
What is your set up? What motor are you running? What fans?
I have similar issues with my Teg. When I get on the high way doing like 80-90 and get behind some one, she over heats. I turn on the Heater and she go’s down to normal. I have a full size Fluidyne Radiator that I am now thinking is not good. I bought it used. I have been told it sounds like a flow issue. It is getting me to the boiling point. I am not sure what to do. I am not leaking any fluids. And I now have 3 fans. 2 Push Slim Fans in front of the A/C Condenser and the stock Radiator Fan in it’s normal position.
I am hopeing to change the Radiator soon to see if that is the problem. If not then I will OVERHEAT MYSELF…
Ralfy… did you remove the fans thats in front of the radiator?
I would give you my stock radiator… but it’s leaking at the corner.
You should stop by the shop and ask Derrik to check for the hot spots in the radiator.
Thanks man…I will be going to the shop soon…I will be letting you know so we can meet there…Thanks again…
did u drain the cooling system? bad thermostat? i’m running a stock half rad with a push and pull fan…no overheating issues unless i’m stuck behind a truck for a while
You all have the same problem, and it’s not the radiator. You don’t have enough fresh air flowing into your engine compartment. I cut a retangle hole right through the middle of my bumper cover and support. I could coast into town from the foot hills on this stretch of high way for at least 2.5 miles. I went and tested it out and coasted down for about 3/4 mile. From a normal operating temperature, while coasting down that short hill at night, my temp needle would go all the way down to the line right at the “C”.
It never had an over heating problem again.
are you still hitting full boost?
FIXED!!! bad thermostat!
Man, I think I will change my Thermastat and Radiator, and see what happens.
Now she is overheating even if no one is in front of me on the highway. All is good for like 25 minutes of getting on the highway, then it is like a switch is turned and the needle starts to go up. At night while the temperature is cooler there is no issue unless I get behind some one for a good while. It is aggrivating.
She can sit in traffic all day. But when she starts to overheat, I turn on the heater and the temp needle go’s down fast. Back to normal. :bang:
yea ive been told time and time again to always start with the thermostat.
i just got my rad and thermostat changed recently and i drove about 40 minutes cruising down the highway. When took my ramp off I drove up a long hill and as I hit the top i noticed the car lacked power and the temp guage was climbing over half so I cranked on the heat and it dropped back down to half and was fine.
Anyone know what caused this? It’s the first time my car has ever done it. I’m thinking maybe the stat got stuck for a moment?
don’t mean to jack the thread, but i’m having overheating problems too with my half rad. it just started yesterday. It’s a brand new radiator/thermostat. If i replace the thermostat, i need to get one for the year civic the radiator fits, right? if not… that might be my problem.
no you get the thermostat for YOUR CAR
I have heard some peeps get the Thermestat that is less degree than tha stock one for the LS 1.8 motor. I just went to Auto parts store and they sold me the Stock one for my motor. It is a 180 degree Stat. I have hear that there is a 160 degree. But for which car is that for and or year…Thanks.
since i got my stat changed it run almost dead on half way up where before it would run a bit less sometimes
Well, I changed my Radiator Cap from a 13 Lbs Cap to a 16 Lbs Cap and I just took the damb Thermastat off. Let’s see tomorrow how she will run on the highway. I also changed the Fan Switch too, but I dont like the fact that the plug can come off if I pull on it hard enouph. Like the little clip part doen’t want to get on. Let’s see what happens now. She idled for like 50 minutes and the fans turned on and all normal. The Test will come tomorrow.
I could not find the 160 Degree Stat, so I did buy the stock one that is 180 Degree. If she still overheats then I will put this Stat in and get a new Radiator.
i was given options as to what temperature i wanted. i told them i had a 1990 acura integra gs. i bought the 170 and she runs a little bellow the middle mark all the time with no heat on or anything.
Still over heating…Radiator will be changed next and fans will be Relayd for max power output.
If still over heating after all that I am going to…Let me calm down and not say some thing really bad…fewwww…
Some times it all just makes me think I should’ve stuck with N/A.
ha well i have the same problem and im N/A plan to go turbo soon but I gotta figure this cooling issue out first . I live in the desert i cant run hot …
