Passenger floor leak quickfix w pics

:bored:

good info…thanx for the visual…

My car was leaking enough to burn out my blower motor, but rather than replacing it and having the new one burn out also, I wanted to fix the leaking problem first.

I took everything apart on mine, and lo and behold, the rubber seals are fine. I have a parts car that I noticed doesn’t leak at all, so I took apart the entire cowl and blower cover assembly to see how it looked. Surprisingly, the rubber seals were in WORSE shape than the ones in my car. A couple looked as bad as the one in the picture, but still I never saw any wet floor at all.

So where else could the leak be coming from if it’s not the rubber seals? I have no problem buying them if it’s the cause of the problem, but there is no point spending $30 on new seals if it won’t fix my problem.

Obviously this is a common-enough problem that there has to be more than just one reason it happens to everybody. I’m going to try to silicone everything tight for now, and try to figure out where else it could be leaking from.

Thanks for the pics.

Just wondering, do you have the step 1-4 pic?

Im gonna go fix mine real soon. Just got my seals yesterday.

crap…mine too

Whew, thanks for this post!

I just got into my car, and I noticed i heard water from the passenger side when I turn on the blower…now it’s been raining like a (*!@ in Vancouver for the last few days, so I suspect it’s the infamous cowl leak…

So i guess this means i get to break the cowl :expressionless:

Any tips on how to drain the water out from the passenger side blower motor first?

i did this quick fix and when i put the windshield cowl back on, the ends dont seem to be in contact with the windshield like the pic from the previous page. will that affect anything ? should i heat the cowl to make it softer and form it back to the window?

After fixing mine about a month ago, my best advice is to silicone the lower cowl piece on. Only 1 or 2 of the seals I had were bad, and they weren’t the ones above the blower motor.

I used the best seals from my car and a parts car I have, and then I also siliconed all around the lower cowl, and I haven’t noticed any leak since.

sorry wrong tread

Anyone living in the northeast of the US, knows recently we’ve had a lot of water. I had so much I was actually stopping at the car wash, daily, just to vaccum out the water.

I ordered these seals and had them sitting around for quite some time… I really should have done this sooner.

So I did it tonight with just the writeup in the TegTips section from 2ndJenn. Didn’t need any pics, it was pretty easy. Thanks so much for the info.

The only other thing I might do is order and replace some of those other retaining screws for the main cowel and the blower hold cover. Well, I should also either replace the (74213-SK7-A02, www.acuraparts247.com has it for $34.27) Cover Blower Hole cowel thing, because all the foam and rubber seal parts on it are shot, or just silicone seal all around it. I just replaced the seals tonight, so I can’t say for sure if it’s fixed my problem… but those old seals were really torn up and rotted, water was DEFINATLY leaking in through them.

On a side note, I also had to replace my blower motor. Got it from PepBoys for about $50 with a discount. I only have High and med-high. Any idea how to get low and med-low to work or is it the wrong motor?

ive been cursed with the same leak for awhile. Last night i took it all apart and what a mess of dirt and muck on top of replacing the
rubber seals 91608-SJ6-003.
there is one white - main windshield cowl CAP-SCREW ASSEMBLY 91501-SK7-013 ,that is right above the blower opening as well which i replaced , i also siliconed the foam strips on the blower cabin cover more securely. As long as yer careful you shud be able to reuse all the other clips and screws. It is all back in now and its pouring rain

i just checked it and no leaks Woot!!
thanks for another awsome tip

Half way there…

Cowl removed, and cover opened.
Only 2 rivets were killed as casualties of dismantle. (The two on the left of the blower cover.)

I’m waiting on the parts today, and I was looking at the thing trying to figure out why this was happening. It occured to me that the problem is because Honda decided to connect the blower cover the way they did, OVER the top of the metal winshield support. Had they designed the blower cover so that it connected UNDER the windsheild support, and had bolts coming up through the metal, then the water would flow over the blower cover into the wiper arm trough and there would be no need for these washers.

I tried to create a makeshift cover, to mount over the blower hole like an umbrella, but when testing out the blower at max speed, it does generate quite a bit of airflow. I’m concerned that my makeshift waterhshed will get sucked into the blower.
I’ve driven with the blower hole sealed, and I can say…the car fogs up fast in the wet cold weather…not good.

Anyway, my 2 cents. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find something suitable before I need to close up shop, cause it justs keep raining here in vancouver…

Oh and update parts pricing in Canada (Burrard Acura. Richmond is cheaper):
91608-SJ6-003 $2.44
91501-SK7-013 $4.63
91511-SK7-003 $3.48
90657-SA5-003 $2.83
90657-SA6-003 $3.53

I had a problem ever since i got my windshield replaced. before it was replaced i remember my brother had the same problem(wet passenger side carpet) and they had the area between the cowl and windshield all caulked up. so i went out today and caulked it all up, ill see how it works next time it rains…

Hats of to whoever first found this problem. I replaced white washer seal things, we’ve had some rain and I see not a drop on my floor.

I even have one of those rubber mats that catches all the water, so if some leaked, even a drop, I’d see it. Nothing is leaking!

I did this the other night, and it’s still leaking :surrend:
i replaced everything and it is still lleaking…but when i was taking everything apart, i cracked the plastic piece by the edge of the hood. its not missing any chunks or anything. would that cause a leak even after replacing everything? would silicone work to cover up that crack?

90_DA when you say you ‘cracked the plastic piece by the edge of the hood’ was that the air blower cover? Not the cowl? If it was the airblower cover you might have water leak in through that cover.

I almost cracked the airblower cover because the 2 rivets (plastic plug-thingys) which secure the cover on the passenger edge don’t come out easily. I had to :gunleft: destroy them first.

When sealing up the thing, I siliconed all around the airblower cover. The way I figure, water only goes in under the airblower cover or through the old rubber clip gaskets which you replaced. As long as water doesn’t get in around the cover, then you should be fine.

Did you remember to push down on the rubber gaskets? When they go in the kind clip in. The fitmint is pretty snug. I also siliconed around the rubber gaskets for kicks…and the top of my cow cover (I didn’t do a very good job there).

i believe it was the cowl that i broke…the thing that sits on the windshield…after i replaced everything, water would only drip down onto my floormat. before i replaced everything, my floor was just all wet. but i siliconed the crack and seems like it has stopped… :hmm: …hasn’t rained here lately so i’ll check it again next time i wash my car. thx!

You can easily rebuild your blower motor yourself

Hi:

Thought I’d post this little tip: I’m on my 3rd blower motor for my '91 Integra (buy them used on eBay for about $25), this one I decided to just take out the two screws on the bottom for the hell of it to see what was going on. The whole thing came right apart, it’s a typically simple motor, I scrubbed out all the rust, cleaned it all up with WD-40, put some white grease in all the obvious spots, plugged it into the cable under the glove box, and voila, good as new, runs beautifully. I’m waiting to do this fix on the seals (THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO BOTHERED TO TAKE PIX AND HELP US ALL OUT!) before I reinstall the motor, so I can’t say my little repair job lasts forever, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t. It took about 25 minutes.

the best floor leak fix , this has worked for me for a few months now with no probs!!
