Phantisy's DA9 Build

Well yesterday around 7PM EST I adopted a 1991 GS shell. She has 166k miles on her. She sits in my yard because I have no garage to keep it in. Everything is still the original color including all the aluminum pieces around the windows. I take it it was garage kept most its life. Was in a fender bender on the front right but looks like very little work to get it all lined up and looking good. This car has been sitting dormant since 2004 collecting dust. Here are links to pictures of the car. I will get more pics today but this is where it all begins…

UPDATE 05/17/2010:

Well added more pictures of the car. One thing I like the most is that the carpet is almost mint. It has a few stains but they will come out. Going to steam clean the carpet (unless there is a better known way) and take pics and I am sure it will look brand new.

Plans for today:

Wash the years of dirt off the car
Start full wire tuck and maybe finish it

sitting for 6 years…get ready for everything to start failing within weeks/months of driving it and have your piggy bank and hammer ready to pay for all the repairs its gonna need from sitting so long

What exactly is going to fail? It was kept in a garage for the past 6 years…

Well got the dash out and found out a mouse at some point lived in the air duct. I have been checking all the wiring just to make sure none was damaged and everything is fine. Had to stop the work for today but I will be working on this all week.

Also removed the fuse box from under the hood.

if you get new wheels, id like to purchase yours, i broke two of them jumping my rally beater civic.

good luck with the rest of your project

Not sure how long it will be before I get new wheels. Going to be a long term project. Ill hit you up though when I do.

Well didn’t get anything done today due to the rain but I did post up some more pics. Going to be picking up a hondata s200 ECU for $100 from the same guy I got the car from. It is a VTEC ECU and I am wondering if I can test it by putting it in my RS (stock B18A1) and seeing if it starts up to make sure it works?

Do you know what ecu exactly its in. you should be able to run your non vtec motor with a vtec ecu. but its going to be completely different and chances are its going to throw a couple of MIL’s (CEL’s) for things the vtec motor has that yours dosent
you would be better off trying it out in a friends car that has a vtec motor

Dont forget to bring a screwdriver and check not only the top, but the botom to make sure there are no burn marks. just because the car starts doesn’t mean the ecu’s good.

Oh yeah, pick up a can of spot shot. that works great on small stains:up:

My DB2 was stored in a garage for 3 years before I bought it and then within 5000km stuff started to go on it. A/C compressor, power steering leaked, ABS pump died, rear wheel bearing went to toast. luckily I was gonna delete a/c, p/s and abs anyways.

maybe you will have better luck with yours

Yeah this car will not have ABS, PS, A/C. I have been working on removing all these things. As long as that is the real problematic things I wont have much to worry about. Barrings are not that big of a deal I will probably get nee OEM ones all around sometime during my build.

Treat it well. If you want help, I’m down

Well you know where I live. Going to be going at it for the next 3 days so yah know if you wanna swing by if you have the free time let me know. Would be nice to have someone to talk to while ripping things out and working getting it cleaned up lol.

I’m not off again until Sunday. I’m booked up solid with finishing up my rims, etc. trying to get ready for the meet that you haven’t decided whether you’re going to or not…

After I get this bitch done, I’ll gladly come help out

:werd:

Today I got all the A/C and PS crap out and the rest of the abs - the sensors. Well the only PS stuff left are the lines attached to the gear box. That will all be gone when I swap in another gear box.

Can anyone say exactly what gear boxes fit? I think the 89 crx si fits as long as we use our tie rod ends? Also I seen on another forum that the crx hx (not sure if that it the right model) has a sharper turning radius? I will post the link once I find it again…

Also took out the carpet and its in my basement ready to be cleaned. This will look 100% new after I clean it I am so excited for that since my RS carpet looks like it went for a 221k mils run.

search for manual rack conversion on this site, there is an entire thread devoted to it and what you have to do in order to get it to work.

I also recommend this

Today I removed all window trim and side moldings. Also cleaned the carpet so I will post before and after pics later today/tomorrow.

There is an 1991 CRX SI steering rack down the road from me. I am going to grab this. I don’t see any info on the years from the CRX that the manual racks fit from. Will the 91 SI fit?
