Great shots of Chloe, James! How’d you have everything set up?
I had the 430EXII on an umbrella stand to my right and another umbrella stand on my left. The 580EXII was on the camera and I pointed the flash head at the umbrella on my left.
It’s a bit of a pain because every time I move around I have to make sure the flash head is always pointed at the umbrella, but it works. This will be a great mobile setup.
I think I’m going to pick up another 430EXII to put on the other stand so I don’t have to fuss with the 580 the whole time, then I can bounce the 580 off the ceiling to fill any shadows behind the subject, and it will double as a hair light.
sweet!
what are you shooting w/ now paolo?
I’m broke as a joke man… I’m still rockin’ the original Rebel… Got into a few other expensive hobbies n’ stuff… Mortgage and R/C stuff… If we have a meet sometime this year i’ll bring out some of the toys…
im still trying to learn low light photography. these are my best so far, but i’m not too happy with them. let me know what you think or if you have any pointers.
It seems like your tripod is a bit shaky.
Or you’re hitting the shutter… switch it to timer… even you hitting the shutter causes enough shake during night shots…
yea…the tripod i have is pretty embarrassing.
but it was free and the nicer tripods that i want are out of my price range right now.
good idea. i’ll give that a shot next time.
How about a shutter release cable? I also find using a higher f-stop (like f8, f11 etc) with a longer exposure time gets sharper images.
i was using F/11 on the two night shots.
I would use a shutter release cable, but right now the timer is free. i did see something online about taking an old mouse from a computer and turning it into a shutter remote somehow…
I’m kinda poor. That’s one reason i decided to try photography. i think after the initial cost of the camera, i’ll be able to enjoy it for awhile without spending much more money. i do want a new lens or two and a tripod though…
You’ll find out how wrong you are soon…
Hmm… maybe you’ll find out sooner then i thought!
that pup is going to be a monster!!!
nice jay!
I wanna get a seamless paper background too… no money though
The paper is relatively inexpensive, but getting the stands, etc adds up!
I have a couple of the paper backgrounds, I need to order more. The stand was only like $139 or so. The rolls of paper shipped are like $28 or so.

yea…i definately know that this can be an expensive hobby. But for now, its not expensive, and im having plenty of fun with what i already have… for now.
Yeah, I don’t remember what I paid for the stands but the paper backgrounds are cheap. Even shipped to Alaska it’s not bad at all.
sweet. Photography gear will be a priority after i get my engine finished
Can’t start buying $1000+ lenses and lighting/studio equipment when i have another 2G’s left to spend on the engine.
screw the engine. $200 should get you a stand and a few rolls of paper.
Something about that pink background is distracting.
Can anyone figure out the lighting setup
