Here are the pics. As you can see, the back of the headlights where you put the bulb in and twist the retainer in is different. The top is the retrofitted one and the bottom is stock. Does anybody know which car I can get the plastic bulb retainers off of, or if anyone has it?
I found a pic of the bulb retainer. For all cars that use d2s bulbs, do they have the same retainers? Does anybody have extras?
you can call up these guy and ask them for some assistance, most likely they’ll have that retainer that u are looking for
db1st, thanks for the link. On the forum that I got the picture from, someone else put a part#, also saying it was part of a 03 passat. So the other day I went to the VW dealership and ordered a pair. I’ll get them in a couple of days and hopefully they’ll be the right ones. If it isn’t then I’ll ask for assistance from that site.
Thanks.
WOW this thread finally got big NICE
Do any of you put your ballasts in the that box to protect it? If so, where can you get those?
can u be more specific? what box are u talking about?
It’s a cover/box for the ballast so that it’s protected from the rain, or other elements. Someone said they ordered a pair on suvlight.com, but did a search and didn’t find anything.
I believe you’re talking about sealed project boxes. I think radio shack sells them. I personally am not using them. If you want your ballasts waterproofed I would consider sealing the ballasts with potting compound. You want a product that doesn’t conduct electricity but completely seals the electrical boards and connectors. Trigger bond works well. There are a lot of products that would work for what you need. What ballasts specifically are you using? If they’re oem, I’d pot them but if they’re kit ballasts I wouldn’t even bother. Might as well just replace it if it dies.
They aren’t oem. I found the ballasts, which are dead now, that my brother used. He used black electrical tape and taped it all around. Are those fine?
You’re saying the ballasts are dead? As in fried? If they’re dead they can’t be used again. Kit ballasts are cheap. Just get the cheapest set on ebay. The quality of all aftermarket hid kits is really poor so don’t get tricked into buying an expensive hid kit, the cheap ones work just as well.
Electrical tape doesn’t really do that good of a job of waterproofing. If you want to waterproof the ballasts effectively, check out potting.
Oh no, I wasn’t going to use the dead ones. I brought it up for no reason. I’ll looking into potting. Thank you guys for your input. Hopefully, I have them on by this weekend.
I sealed my ballasts inside two of those glad plastic containers you use for bringing lunch or snacks in. I’m using Lexus slim ballasts and screwed them behind the fenders. I didn’t need to putty or epoxy them since the containers have an airtight seal as it is. Been goin solid for the past few years now.
If your looking for new balasts go to DDMtuning.com they are $29.95 lifetime warrenty i know alot of people using them with no problems also great customer service i hear too
