I searched and didn’t find much for the different places tweeter’s work well. Sooo I was wondering if you guys could post pics of where you installed your tweeters and a quick explanation of how you put them there.
Thanx

For the best sound, mount you tweeters as close to the midrange as possible. Seperating them will cause an off axis dip at the crossover frequency. You will also get a problem with combing, and imaging errors.
i got pics i can post of mine…
how do I post em on the board???
I put my tweeters in front of my speakers in the door pods… i didnt want to cut up my lovely trim, nor did i want to place the tweeters too far away from the mids up in the sail area.
SO, I made a bracket for each tweeter out of metal strapping used to secure stereos and such, and angled the tweeters. It sounds very good, i do lose a bit of treble cause of the speaker cloth, but its still very good. Once i find a spare pair of speaker covers i’ll flush mount the tweeters into them, although i do like the stealthy look i have now.
I’ll get pics this weekend
good thinkin on the tweeters.
where, if u use em’, did u mount the x-over boxes??

I’d be very interested to see pics of this.
Looks like I’ll either be doing this or just above the front speakers in the door panels.

A friend of mine who teested them out in various locations of the car has concluded thee best location os to mount them behind the window vents on top of the door panel.
If you mount them close to the mids down below, they dont’ quite maximize their potential to provide crisp treble. I’ve heard of a few ssytems, and IMO my frieend’s sounds thee best on the top of the door panel.
Swivel tweeters work wonders, and even with silk tweeters (more mellow and less metallic), the treble is plenty loud and crisp.
(mind you, with like 75 watts to each tweeter alone, this is understandable).

My crossovers sit just next to the speakers, tucked away between the speaker and the start of the door pocket… they are wrapped in foam so no unwanted vibration or anything. Im very happy with the way they ended up, the stock look was very important to me… with the clarion badges above the grills just to hint at a bit of an improvement. I’d rather take the time to Integrate things into this car than just whack them on… i hate that half-done look
hmm, i’ll take pics on Sunday, just before I hit the beach!
ok, here are pics
I like it!!!
I was surprised that the tweeters fit between the grille and the midbass driver… GOOD JOB!

Very cool…Thanx Redteg.
I don’t think I’ll be able to fit the tweeter there…but it gives me some ideas.
When I finally get my tweeters in I’ll take some pics.
Looks good redteg. One suggestion though. I have found that using heat shrink instead of tape on the backstrap really makes it look professional. You might want to try it. The results might shock you.
Thanks guys, it was the easiest way i could figure of installing the tweeters and crossovers.
Steven, the tape was put on just for the photo… thanks for the tip, I’ll be doing that, its just that no-one ever sees the speakers anyway, but heat-shrink should be much more permanent and neat… I tried painting the straps but not even primer would stick on them.
Quality of sound is very good (this is going only by MY ears cause its MY car and MY money, hehe) I have lost a tiny bit of crispness, but its still very good, not too much separation. They’re not the best speakers, and I have replaced the crossovers for Pioneer units I like alot.
Any more questions just ask!
Here’s more pics, lets see if this works Imagestation

15 minute install per door.
I’ve tried them up there speeddaddy - actually, thats the first place i put them because its pretty common. It’d be simple to mold them into the sail area (and look very cool!), but for my tweeters and crossovers (I tried a few different tweeter/crossover combinations) the sail location proved to produce too separated a sound, with overbearing treble.
I’m sure it has to do alot to our ears, the music we listen to, as well as the components we use.
I’ve noticed that US made drivers are often a little more brash than Asian/European components… Maybe you guys are used to that sound over there?

you jus need flush mount’s to put the tweets in and your set… and of course make the hole for them aswell…
