Started a thread but didn’t like it and the title doesn’t exactly work anymore since I no longer live in Orlando. Figured since my Prelude build threads where doing so good on the respective forums I would try to buckle down and make one for my first and only true love in the Honda game. I have been on this website since high school and love the information I have always found. At time a few people on her can be some royal pains in the ass but o well fuck em. At the end of the day I know what works for me and what I’ve done and unless they can prove what I’m saying is bull shit or a lie I have no reason to be offended by them and neither should anyone else. So with all that out of the way here is a brief history on my beloved DB1 and what my future plans are for those who care and decide to follow me on this joyace adventure.
~ History ~
Well it all started in August of 2005. I was driving an 89 Ford Mustang and it literally caught on fire while I was driving down the road. A few days later a friend of mine from high school tells me his mother has a 90 Integra that she might be willing to sell since it just sits in a garage collecting dust. I talked to my dad and did some wheeling and dealing and BAM! I now was the proud owner of a 1990 Acura Integra LS 4 door. Up until I seen this car I didn’t even know they made Integra’s in four door. Stupid yes I know but at the time I was obsessed with 2G Integra’s but was that typical idiot kid who didn’t know a brake shoe from a brake pad. Well now it’s 2012 and the car has seen 6 motors, 8 transmissions, and more wheels then I can remember but I still held her close even during the months at a time she sat parked with no engine while I drove something else. Well that’s the extremely short version and if you want to know more just ask and I don’t mind answering. If there’s one think I like to do it’s talk about my car.
Well here are some shots from over the years so enjoy! If you have Facebook I actually have a fan page for the car. Just type “PopSekret” into the search and it should pop up under pages section I think.
Alright so this is the only picture I have of the car closest to stock. Put a brand new set of the correct size tires on her and got a friend of mine to cut the springs. Other then that it is 100% factory!!!
Playful picture a friend of mine made.
Random stuff taken over the years with friends committing shenanigans!!!
Well it appears my second post will just be a continuance of my first post since I only have a 15 image max post in each post
Alright so 2011 was a year of change for me that eventually just had me going back to Manassas, Va from Orlando, Fl. Damn I should’ve stayed in Florida lol Well here are some changes it went threw shortly before I left and while I was down there.
lol looks like you change wheels constantly. Looks good though! Are you still running the cut springs now?
Yes I change wheels about 3-4 times a year. Cheaper then buying new tires lol
On the suspension no the cut springs where replaced with Skunk2 springs and struts then back to cut springs and now it sits on some used Skunk2 Coilovers, not the sleeves but the full body ones. I think there blown though so I might sell em and go back to just springs and decent shocks.
I see, well thats betteer than cut springs what engine does it have now
Well I loved my cut springs. Rode even and smooth with no bounce at all. Handled great to it just didn’t have the stiff spring rates that aftermarket stuff does which is what I needed. At the moment there is no motor in it but I just picked up a 90 GS parts car with running motor and all so I will be swapping everything over this week and hopefully driving it again come this weekend.
Well thanks to the rain I couldn’t really get any pictures of the parts car I’m using but me and my broski got it towed. Hopefully tomorrow I get the DB1 moved and the car together by the weekend Life is good!
We have to hook up some time. I live about 45 minutes away from Manassas.
What engine is in there? B16?
Nah the B16 is long gone. Going back to factory B18a1. Probably going to order new synchro’s for one of the 3 B16 transmissions I got and throw it on there as well for when I go LS-V.
Come on up to Manassas sometime. Love to meet new people in the Honda game. They do anything down your way? I could gather a few of the boys and come your way as well. I know the website doesn’t like us to talk about it but me and the boys don’t just put our cars together to stare at them in parking lots.
Alright so yesterday I sent a DA9 the great scrap yard in the sky. Sad yes I know but it was fucked and had to go. Now I will be sending another one to the same place once I strip it of everything and anything I will need for my girl to be brought back to life. Well tonight I grabbed her from the lot so tomorrow I can start the switching of shit from one to the other!!!
Alright well I changed the name of my Album in Photobucket from “1slw4dr” to “1SLW4DR” and I come to find out it is case sensitive. All pictures are now working on my computer so hopefully it is on everyone else’s as well!!!
Alright so here I am on to my next update on my revival project of my precious DB1. After some blood, sweat, and tears just like any other project I’ve done I got the motor switched over and running. At first the motor didn’t want to start from lack of fuel but a main relay and switch of the computers solved that issue. Then once we finally got it started the TPS was bad so we changed it out with a single cam throttle body for a temporary solution. Now that it’s running and idling with out any issue we moved on to our next problem. The motor wouldn’t rev for shit. Ran like it had a clogged catalytic converter but see that couldn’t be the issue since it was open header. So after a good long dinner break and taking a baseball bat to the parts car I checked the timing. Guess the previous owner had the timing belt or something in that area messed with and the exhaust cam was off by almost 3 teeth and the intake cam was off by 1. Well now that this problem was solved and fixed this motor runs GREAT!!! I spent $400 dollars on a car that wouldn’t even start in hopes of being as good as I like to brag I am and in the end I got my car street worthy again. Well enough with my boasting and chit chatting and on to what everyone likes. PICTURES! I hate having to work and worry about pictures at the same time so if there are any specific pictures you might be interested in just give me a shout and I can see what I can do next time. In the future I’m going to try and always make sure I have a second person to take pictures.
This is the parts car. It had more paint fade, damage, and just over all more issues then I felt was worth dealing with. Plus I hate 2 doors except my Prelude!
Lazy bastards didn’t feel like dropping the gas tank I assumes so here is what I found while digging threw all the shit left for me in the trunk.
When pulling swaps I tend to pull the distributor off as it allows for me to avoid the risk of damage. I only do this when pulling a motor out the top since when lowering the motor you can’t really damage it. Well in my caution I discovered what appears to be the teeth off the old distributor in the area where the cam goes. Guess now I know why it has a new distributor.
Well here is the motor after it being pulled. Dirty as hell and wish I had a way to clean it before I put it back in.
Alright so some of the pictures I have where taken from the girlfriends iPhone so if you notice he size or quality a little different well there is your reason. Anyways, this is the part where I started putting the motor into my DB1 and of course the front torque mount and rear mount where all fucked up. So lucky for me the roommate had ordered a set of Energy Suspension mount inserts for a car he was putting together and they arrived after he had already put it back together and sold it. Well until I can get some Hasports these will have to do.
15 Picture max in one post so here is part 2 to my update!!!
Well after searching I learned that the ES mount inserts come with enough bushings for 3 mounts. You only use 2 of the sets though. The trick is the rear mount is different on some DA/DB chassis’s and you have to figure out which one you have when installing. Once I figured out which one to use I popped them in and wham, bam, thank you ma’am all done. Remember they fit on either side but ES has part numbers that dictate which one is driver side and passenger side.
2 sets meant for rear mount.
Set meant for the mount I am using.
Installed and on the car!!!
Now the front mount is a lot more simple. The 2 pieces meant for that mount are again designated for driver and passenger side and slide right in but the difference is this one uses the 2 supplied zip ties to hold them in. I accidentally broke one of mine but the other one seems to be holding for the most part. Once slid in and bolted up as far as I can tell these bad boys hold the motor really good. Normally i wouldn’t use them on a broken mount like I did but I just quit my job and doing this all on a budget.
Front torque mount destroyed
Inserts meant for mount
Good as new can’t even tell!
Installed and you can see where the zip ties go and how I’m missing the one I broke
Well as you can tell I like to talk a lot!!! Well for my final photo we kinda dropped the motor when installing it. In all my years doing this I have never had something like this happen so I was pissed. Lucky for me the next morning I got it all jacked up and squared away and the only damage caused was the TPS sensor.
Alright so went by the house my car is at currently and got the brake calipers switched out that where seized and adjusted the coil-overs some. I’m pretty sure they’re all blown. Good thing I didn’t pay much. Planning on just going back to a good spring/shock combo anyways. Well here are a couple pictures if ya wanna check it out.
Alright so I haven’t had a chance to get the alignment done yet and this new landscaping job has me tired as fuck once I get off work. One of the tires I was using was bald as hell and just needed it to last until my first check but no such luck. On my way to work yesterday like a gun shot I herd a bang and sure as shit now I had a flat tire. Normally I would never take such a risk but times are rough and I got to work ya know.
Found a guy in the FS Threads and he made some billet cam seals and was willing to engrave them with my group/team/part time business name and I ordered 3!!!
So after a new to me throttle body, heater core re route since mine was leaking, and a used radiator from the junkyard I this thing fires up great. Runs like a champ and now just needs an alignment and wheel bearings getting a little loose so I’ll be changing those out. Well here’s the engine bay finished and good to got. Plan to install cruise control back on her and as usual it has a full AC/PS delete since I’m no bitch
Im liking your progress and thanks for stoppin by and checking out my db1. Looks like a good project but still a clean car. what’s plans so far?
As of right now it needs a ton of body work. Once I get my Prelude back together the plan is to park this and start on all that while gathering all the parts for the H2B swap. Well in my case it’ll be F2B since I’m choosing to go with the F20B.
nice nice should be a decent setup. pretty cool your in VA i got alot of family members there. i wanna get mine fully cross country drivable so i can do a cool road trip lol. Martinsville,va is where my family is at. My db1 needs some work but its cool lol in for your build.
Thanks man appreciate the kind words!
