Alright so I really need to focus on getting my daily BB2 back together so I can tear this apart again and FINALLY start on the F2B swap. I finally got it aligned so I wont be eating up tires anymore and hopefully get some better gas mileage. On top of that when I drained my oil almost 6 quarts came out and half a gallon of coolant needed to be added. Considering I’m not the kind of guy to let something like that happen the only thing I could think is this motor might need a head gasket. Only issue is I only have these symptoms and the obscene lack of power to hint at such a claim.
Well with that update being said here are some pictures of my latest upgrade to come. When my roommate sold me my suspension it also included a K Tuned traction bar. Problem is one of the radius rods where bent from when the guy hit a car. Already emailed K Tuned and once they respond I’ll either be keeping it or selling it. For now here are some photos of this fine piece of equipment.
See the issue? Kid who owned the car we took it off of really couldn’t drive for shit.
Also on another note my custom cam seals came in the other day. Here’s a few pictures of how they turned out. I personally think they came out great!
Alright everyone well I don’t have any real updates other then the oil is still as clean as when I changed it and this motor seems to be running stronger each day. At the moment I think it’s at the best it’s going to be with out some tweaking. My plan is to hit the junkyard for and OBD1 DC Integra intake manifold and a 92-93 4-2-1 header. I like to use stock parts as much as possible when I can because there cheap and I’ve tested them to run better then most aftermarket parts you can get off eGay. Well enough with the small talk. The car was running so well I thought I would take it to the track and get a base time for what it runs with it’s current setup.
Stock B18a1 w/200k
Stock Clutch/Flywheel
Stock intake, header, cat, and mid pipe
Muffler is not on the car yet and AC/PS has been deleted completely
185/65r14 sumitomo’s
Only aftermarket parts are Skunk2 coilovers and ES Mount Inserts.
Below are the time sheets.
Also since its a track event I got a video for you guys. ENJOY!!!
The guy in the Accord I am racing against is a good friend/customer of mine and his car sad to say runs better then mine
I give up!!! Video will be posted once I can figure out how to link it with out it being click able to my photo bucket
Alright so I think I figured out how to link the video that goes with one of those time slips in my last update. Currently in the process of uploading any and all photos to Photobucket so I can upgrade the thread. Probably wont get it all done tonight but hopefully be fully updated by the end of week for those keeping an eye out.
Ok so I take that back. I was hoping to just post a link and have it be a clickable video but it looks like I can only figure out how to make it so you can watch it in another window. GAY!
Alright so here is an actual update finally! A friend of mine owed me a little bit of coin and I had some parts that we had bought for his old car he no longer has. So I took those as payment and lucky for me found a guy on a Facebook group with a set of DB2 front seats. Well luck would have it he needed the parts I now had and I wanted those seats. Short drive to the other side of the county and I was now a happy guy. So here are the photos cause I know that’s what you queers really want!
So this car rolled off the assembly line 06/89 and has 300k on the odometer . . . This driver seat has def seen better days!
Now for the new hotness!!!
And now for the installed shot. Don’t mind the mess it had been a long week.
O and for a little humor my baby ma’ma thought it would be funny to snap a shot of me enjoying my new seat. It was fucking hot that day.
Now the passenger seat was a little more of an issue. Took me a few days to get it installed because one of the bolts had been rounded off and I didn’t have the tool I needed. Swung by a friends shop after work one day and we got it out and I switched the seats.
Considering I almost always have a passenger for the first 4 years I had this car and I did A LOT of humping in that seat I imagined it would be a lot worst but eh what ever.
Now a shot of the new hotness 2!
Both seats installed and finally riding with something decent for a change.
Now for update 2!!! I had a JDM Type R shift linkage laying around and meant to put it on when I did the swap but I had forgot it at a friends and wasn’t worth the trip at the time. So while I was doing the brakes the other day I jacked the car up obnoxiously high threw some stands under her and wham bam thank you ma’am. Also installed a new center piece and shift boot while I was at it since the old one had no boot because the screw holes where stripped out and wouldn’t hold the metal piece the boot attaches too.
This is how it looked before. Had more play then a Vegas hookers snatch!
Few shots of the linkage and shifter. Direct swap no mods needed.
Installed & sitting pretty!
New center piece and boot!!! Been almost 4 years with out one.
All dressed up prim and proper with Civic shift knob which needs to be changed asap!
Alright so here is the last update I ment to post but been to lazy to do. Basic brake swap with some eBay stuff. Had my doubts but they work really well. The rear rotors where Powerslots and had them since '06. Slots damn near even with the face lol Also when doing brakes it’s always good to have the proper tools. Had to borrow impact driver from roommate and went to dealer for new screws.
Ya I have to be easy on how hard I hit the brakes or the wheels lock up so I figure that’s kinda good lol Also hope your right on the brake dust cause I got steelies so I don’t know yet.
So time for some updates!!! Finally got my first paycheck just in time for the first oil change since the new swap. At the same time I had to drain and fill the transmission because I had a wicked grind into 4&5. When I did the swap I was so hard on money that I used one quart Honda fluid, one quart 10w30 and half a quart 5w30. So went to the dealer and acquired some trans fluid, oil pan plug, and all new crush washers. Bad news is the plug they had used re-threaded the pan and I just messed up the new plug. So now I need to get a pan. Please people use the right shit. The dealer really isn’t your enemy. Sometimes they just give me the washers. Well after all that a buddy of mine had a Mugen shift knob and for $10 now enjoy my new knob Well here are my photos as usual!!!
Fresh fluids!!!
Plug and Washers!!!
This was the crush washer for the trans drain plug. So cheap and easy to replace I don’t get why people don’t do it. Drain plug didn’t even have one.
Alright people so here comes more updates!!! Damn I’m getting good at this. Build threads aren’t bad once you motivate yourself enough. Well this update will cover my compression test, new cam seal, and spark plug install. Basically I was driving around and the car felt funny and it had started over heating again while it was parked idling. Keeps losing coolant somewhere but I have yet to track it down. Thought the head gasket might be bad so thought lets check compression. Also I never changed the plugs when I got the motor and felt now would be a perfect time since I had them out. Well when I went to pull the plug wires there was so much oil in the spark plug tubes I couldn’t even see the tops of the plugs. :wtf: So now the valve cover was going to get pulled of course and now would be a good time to put the new cam seal in. Well onto the blow by blow.
Well first thing first it helps to have the proper tools.
First I pulled the plug wires and this is what I got surprised with . . .
Well off comes the valve cover. Shockingly for a 200K motor it has no sludge build up and really isn’t all that bad. Wish I hadn’t been driving the car all day and I could have done a valve adjustment.
So once I put the vacuum over the tubes with an air chuck in them I blew and sucked  so all that oil wouldn’t end up in the combustion chamber. Now this is how the plugs looked. They of course where replaced with my personal favorite type of NGK that a re 2 steps colder and only cost $10 and some change. My old boss uses them on all the high horsepower turbo cars he builds and they work great so figure why not use em in my car and everyone else’s I work on.
Well for you common folk who might not know what a compression tester looks like here ya go . . . I tried to make a video to show you all but my phone wouldn’t work for some reason. But the good news is the motor is 180 across the board with no inconsistency
Alright well the forum only lets me link 10 pictures in one post in case anyone missed the last time I mentioned it or didn’t know. This being said I’ll probably have one more post after this one and then my updates will be done for now . . . I think
Alright well with the compression test and plugs out the way here comes the cam seal. This part was a little more involved and you will see why. Very unhappy with the morons that had this swap before me. So mistreated.
This is what they had for a cam seal . . . Before
I went to pull it out and the 2 bolts not under the valve cover came out by hand! :bang: Well once it was out this is what it looked like.
They had so much gasket maker I had to bust out the big guns to clean it all off. AIR TOOLS FTMFW!!!
After a good cleaning
What the new seal looks like and installed. If you want to know more about the G14 thing just log onto Facebook and search “G14 Inc.”
Alright so on to all of the little things. We had this 4 door 92-95 Civic in the back of my friends house. It got stripped for any and every thing we could use over the past 2 years. We finally got it pulled out and off to junk but before that I stole the valve cover ground and the trans ground to use on my car because my valve cover ground was fraying and about to fall apart from the looks of it.
Old Ground
New Grounds
After those where taken care of I threw on my awesome funnel to top off the low coolant and clear out air bubbles. For those who don’t know why exactly this particular funnel is so amazing you don’t do timing belt, head gasket, or any other coolant related repairs as often as I do.
Everything bolted back together and some mildly used NGK wires to replace the junk that was on there.
Got bored and brake cleaned the engine stamp and trans sticker. May not be factory motor for this car but still a factory swap so this is a stock LS
Definitely don’t wanna use colder plugs on your car (especially 2 steps colder). You said it yourself, you old boss only used them on high HP turbo cars.
Well I’m going to give em a shot and see how I like them but in the long run I have my eyes on a set of 16’s I’ve always wanted.
I never said he only used them in the built cars. We used them in all kinds of cars. I’ll be honest I don’t know all the specifics behind how heat ranges work and stuff but I spray my car from time to time and I know these plugs to be reliable and even when I’m not racing the car the plugs work fine and I’ve never pulled a set that looked like it had abnormal conditions. If you gave a reason to why I shouldn’t run them maybe I would be more inclined to think about my choice in heat range.
