post up your exhaust

HKS Hi-Power

I love this exhaust. It is quiet, yet still noticeable.

how long have you had it?

there’s been rumor and conjecture that the muffler gets blown out after a short period, but again that’s just rumor and conjecture. hence my asking someone with experience.

I have only had it for about a week. I have not heard this rumor, hopefully it does not happen.

roger that.

keep us updated; as i said none of this came from anyone who personally owned one, just e-legend.

apparently they were complaining that it became really raspy after a while. which sucks because i’ve heard 'em new and love the sound.

I was doing a little reading at the HKS website and came across this:

Advantex®:
HKS uses Advantex® glass fiber packing in most of its newer model applications. Advantex is a continuous strand of fiberglass packing that is less likely to blow out or wear out over time compared the conventional muffler packaging material. Advantex is also part of how HKS makes its distinct exhaust tone.

  • Advantex® is a registered trademark of Owens Corning.

Stainless Wool:
The stainless wool insulates the glass wool from extreme heat and also prevents it from breaking apart. The stainless wool also provides excellent durability and sound dampening.

This rumor could be about the older systems. I love the sound, it is definitly different from others.

stock cat or test pipe got a sound clip

man just get the Hks, you will never hear anything bad about it… If a test pipe is too loud, sell it and keep your stock cat and you’ll be happy as a pig in shit

I was thinking. Do you guys think using a test pipe over a cat will lead to more “blow out” issues? I would assume so, since the cat traps a bunch of shit in it that a test pipe would let flow right thru

Hey ferret I’ve had my HKS for about 3 years now and have put 30,000 miles on it, the muffler gets a lot louder as it is broken in, but does not get raspy. The biggest problem that I have had with it is the coating on the mild steel chips and the pipes rust on those chips. But that is easily solved with scotch brite and a new coat of paint.

given the climate i’ll be driving in for at least one year (maybe more depending on length at duty station and how quickly i get the car done) i’m going to be sticking with a stainless exhaust like the SP2.

Here is a sound clip from the inside if anybody is interested. However; my video camera simply cannot record the true sound of this exhaust.

get a out side clip

no sound clip can capture how this thing sounds on a highway both inside the car and in a car following someone with the hks…

Definitely. You might even think about coating your piping anyway though, even stainless can rust.

Same here. Everyone was getting mad at me on another forum for buying my uppipe and downpipe new. I just feel better wearing stuff in myself.

Oh and I took the Integra out for some gas the other day, and I realized that the exhaust really has gotten kind of raspy. It’s a throaty rasp though not like a bumble bee, just a really fricken loud braaaap. I have been running with no cat for a long time though so those resonators have been exposed to a lot of heat, I’m not surprised that it has gotten as loud as it is.

i’m planning on a high-flow. i’d prefer to test pipe it, but i’ve got a feeling that’s just more trouble in the long run than it’s worth.

I’d say opt for the high flow cat
