ProMcCown's DB1

So I’ve decided to start my build thread. By all means nothing special. This car is my daily driver that I use for work.

I bought this car in May of last year. Drove it around for work for a few weeks and it blew a coolant hose and over heated on me. Blew the head gasket but didn’t have coolant in the oil and didn’t have oil in the coolant. Just burned a little coolant. Then my water pump failed and the car has been sitting for the past few months because I’m doing the auto to manual swap and working so it’s going really slow.

I was going to get a B20 and try and BAR but right now I’m just going to replace the head gasket, water pump, and timing belt and drive on this motor until I can afford to swap the motor.

Below are some pictures of my DB1. It was taken a little bit after I finished my HID projector retrofit. Most people seem to not like it, I love it however because of the light output. It’s nice to have great light output when you need to see house numbers and stuff like that.

And a picture of another build I’m doing.

Today I removed the head on the B18. Does anyways know what would this gunk to be in the intake ports?

My brother said it’s either bad valve stem seals or blow by from the pistons but figured I would post up on here if anyone knows.

Picture of the head:

Top of pistons:

gunk in the intake ports is common with a motor that has been running for 20+ years… dont let it worry you.

if you ever want to sell that bumper lmk i am on the hunt for a 91 bumper. if you want to get a different one locally and the price is right, i’ll send you the money for it and pay for shipping for that one… if you ever feel like it that is… the offer is on the table.

nice car though. the hid retrofit is cool. the only thing about projectors i dont like is the cut off. that light and dark thing isnt cool.

Your intake tube has a vacuum line that goes to the valve-cover… Hence sludge in your intake and head. That’s just how it goes.

Good stuff so far! I’ll definitely be checking in on this one.

Thanks guys.

DA_all_day, sorry man I really like the look of the 91 front bumper so this one is staying on the car.

I don’t really have any crazy plans for this car. I just want it drivable again. The more I work on it the more I find stuff I need to replace.

When taking out the motor I came to find out ALL of the motor mounts were ripped. When I pulled the axles the passenger side came out in 2 pieces. I replaced the tie rod ends. The front passenger LBJ stud was scraped to the point were the castle nut wouldn’t go back on so I had to replace those. My suspension is blown. By the time I’m done this is going to be a brand new car lol.

To finish the auto to manual swap all I need is a manual ECU and a manual intermediate shaft. After those are installed and the motor is ready to be put back in and I have all the parts I need I’ll be so happy.

My plans are to lower it some, nothing to crazy. Get some nice wheels for it, JDP lip or get a nice alternative, flush mount spoiler, and probably the flowmaster axle back. I already swapped the front seats with 92-93 seats along with the steering wheel.

My brother had a pool ball shift knob made for his jeep but the guy messed up and had to make another. But luckily for me it fits

Yes it’s a 49er shift knob, don’t hate lol. I think it would go nice with a woodgrain steering wheel.

Like the retrofit job,
Was there a kit or did you just wing it

love the retrofit. its 1 of the best mod i have, the light output is amazing.

broke_da it is a kit. If you’re interested I got the kit from theretrofitsource.com I highly recommend them for doing a retrofit.

Thanks turboda4dr, definitely the best mod I’ve done to the car so far. Great lighting and I don’t blind people.

So my curiosity has peaked… What’s up with the bicycle? Lol

Lol. The bike has a 80cc 2-stroke motor mounted on it. You can get kits specifically made to fit in the frame of a bicycle.

Unfortunately they are low quality engines from China but if you do it right they can last a long time. Unmodified like mine (all I’ve done is play with the carb and put a different intake on it) they go a top speed of 35MPH but you can build them to go 50MPH+.
Nothing special but it saves a lot of gas  Plus it’s a cheap hobby lol.

^^ bauce bike!

Lol thanks

that biek is pretty cool

Small update. This build is pretty much on a 6 month hold while I work in Yosemite over the summer. Which means I will most likely be doing the B20 swap when I get back.

Today I swapped cluster covers from auto to manual. Easy task, figured I post pictures for those interested.

So here is a pic of the Auto one, just pull it off and you ready to put the manual over on.

But before you can put the Manual one on you must first shave the plastic where the Auto P-2 lights are. Otherwise it will not fit correctly.

And then the end result. Easy and cheap way to have a Manual looking cluster while retaining your miles.

Another update, Got a B20B from Attarco Yesterday, if anyone is wondering it’s $650 with a $35 core.

Can’t wait to bring this car back to life! I miss it so much.

I love the bike man! Those setups were hot in Korea in the 90’s, was the only thing to do growing up on a farm out there.

Nice teg as well I like the mods and shifter lol

dope man

Thanks, the bike is cool and cheap to tinker with. The shift knob would compliment a wood grain steering wheel nicely ;).

I’m also thinking of painting the B20 valve cover with the same color changing paint that’s on the gas tank of my motorized bike, what do you guys think?

Newer motor:

Want my exhaust to look like this!!

New pedals in (old photo did, this myself before I left for Yosemite) Looks like a mess but it was fairly simple to take the dash apart and put back together. :

I too like the oval exhaust tip look on the DA, DB since both rear bumper covers are shaped to have one. I just don’t agree with it sticking out 8 inches, maybe an inch or inch 1/2. I plan on going oval exhaust tip myself. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out.
