Real Deal Budget Build

I have been trying to find an ES Oval muffler for quite some time now, but they are backordered everywhere. I even called ES Tuning and they weren’t sure when they’d have another batch ready.

Lucky me found a guy semi-local with one for sale. Got it for $75. I would have preferred the polished canister, but I can live with the black.

When I have it installed, I will have it fabbed up like my old polished one from my old DA (2.5" one piece piping from the header back):

Scored a fender at the pick-a-part yesterday and got that on. Still need a hood and 92-93 bumper. I’m going back to pick-a-part today to score a basically brand new set of KYB GR-2 shocks that are sitting on a stock auto DA stashed away in the back of the lot.

that thing is ready to go off roadin lol

hahahaha hell yeah man.
suspension will get done soon enough. I’m just grabbing parts as I see them come up.

What kind of mpg are you getting?

right on. teach the younger generation. doesn’t need to be 5 minute fads and overnight ebay parts. patience and pride brotha. just like how things used to be

p.s., i vote for 96 itr’s.
picked mine up for 2 bills. then, trailing arms and knuckles for another 2.
all about the budget myself as well. got more time than money

[QUOTE=usdm420;2258794]I picked up a set of 17" fully polished and refinished Centerline wheels. These wheels weren’t in my plans but I couldn’t pass them up for the price. They will look great for days when I want a mid-late 90’s throwback look…dumped on 17’s FTW.

JEEEEEEEEZUS i’d love to find some of those

My last tank I got 28…and that’s with a few VTEC cracks here n there.
I drive it 60 miles a day, splitting time 50/50 between highway-streets.

Also, here’s a quick update of things in the works.

I have a set of 15" 5-Zigen Div.3 wheels that will be in transit at the end of the week. I will have them powdercoated. Not sure what color yet, most likely either all black, or all white. These wheels were the first set of real deal wheels I bought as a kid when I was 17 in 1997. I had them on my '92 Si. When I found a set for sale, I had to jump on it.

With those wheels coming, I have a trade lined up for Friday for my Slipstreams. I will be trading the Slips for a full, complete b-series ebay turbo kit. Yes, I know I know I know. EVERYONE says they’re shit. Everyone that DOESN’T own one that is.

I have read and read and read about these kits for YEARS, and will be installing it CORRECTLY! I will be picking up a 38mm Tial wastegate (the true fault in the ebay kits), and bracing the manifold or going with a steel log manifold…and I will be having it tuned as soon as the kit goes on (which will be a ways out still).

The turbo is a T3/T4 50 trim. Gonna shoot for 7lbs. of boost. The B17’s compression test came up with 176-185 across the board so I think she’ll be good to go.

Just a quick vid of a bone stock 3rd gear pull. I’m at a mile high elevation so she gasps for air which sucks. When I go down to the Phoenix area she rips open so much better.
Can’t wait to boost in another month or so.

Just thought I’d throw up some pics since stuff finally started coming in.

15" 5-Zigen Div.3 Original gold w/polished lip. Lips look dull but they have plastic shipping caps on them.

T3/T4 .50 trim

DSM blue tops

I’ll be picking up the Tial 38mm wastegate tomorrow…thanks to Mr. Taggart_Lumpy

Suspension is next.

Cool build, keep it up. I too am pretty much on the same budget except I’m attempting a low buck ITB-A track setup (if there is such a thing). So I’m focused mainly on suspension/handling. When it comes time for brake replacement / upgrades ditch that ABS for sure. My ABS light was on forever and I’m so glad I finally decided to ditch the whole system. It sounds like you have a decent PnP yard in your area so you should be able to find a 40/40 prop valve and maybe even some non-ABS lines fairly easily. It not as difficult a job as some folks try to make it; having a complete set of front hard lines would make it a breeze. Mini cooper front rotors w/ ITR calipers is a great bang for the $$ upgrade as well, if funds permit.

Thanks for the suggestions man, I’ll definitely hit the yard for those brake lines and 40/40 valve…I hadn’t even thought about that. I’m about to swap my rotors/pads in the next month or two so I might just try and tackle the job during that time.

Good luck on your ITB setup. I had thought about that route a few times as well.

Tial 38mm 7psi wastegate is in

Now I’m just waiting on a cast iron log manifold and we’ll be ready to boost and tune this baby.

Cant wait to see more of this. Good stuff mate

Well no major updates right now, spent a chunk of cash on maintenance stuff for my RL. I did however, score a set of 15" black Enkei RPF1’s. I traded the Centerlines for them.

damnit, i woulda loved to get those centerlines

Decided after much thought to sell the turbo and stick to NA.
At 32 years old, I don’t want to add more to the car that will just require even further maintenance and up keep. I might revisit the idea later, but it will be a kit bought brand new, and I’ll have a motor prepped for it.
