I am new to this forum but from what I have read this is the place to ask. I have rebuilt a couple of b16’s before…but just rebuilt them to stock spec. I have a 92 Gsr with a JDM b16. I also have a T3/4 turbo custom kit , it set at 4.5 lbs of boost. All of the rings went bad and a piston landing broke on the number one cylinder. I have eagle rods and srp pistons(9:1) with JE piston rings and KSM stock size rod bearings. I found after I honed the cylinders that the number 1 cyl. has one scare that I can feel with my fingernail. My problem is that the closest machine shop is 50 miles away and I still have the block in the car with no time to take it out. Does anyone think that I can hone it for longer and at least minimize the scare or will the piston rings not set right if I do that. This is new to me because all of the blocks that I have honed were in good condition to begin with. Also what kind of boost can I run with this set up, including 440 cc injectors and the ecu was tuned for 7.5 that is actually running pig rich. Any comments on this would be great. Thanks
You will def see a lot of blow by with that scratch and risk other further damage if the walls arent smooth.
Find another block to put those pistons/rods in or get the block overbored by .010 and trade those pistons to oversize ones…
I have honed it but the stones broke. It looks like the scare is almost gone. If I can get the scare out totally can the piston rings seal on the slightly larger diameter bore? I have also found a b18b block for cheap. It has an unknown history but it came out of a wrecked car. My next question is how hard is a vtec/ls swap since I have the head off of the b16? Can I use the rods and pistons from the b16 on a b18 crank so that I don not have to return the ones that I have and get longer ones and can I use the b16 pistons that I have now?
anyone help me please.
you can use the B16 pistons, but you have to use the LS rods, in order for you to use the B16 head you have to buy an LS/VTEC conversion and move the dowels and plug the oil passage on the head. once you do this though your basically going to have to use LS blocks from here on out, which isnt a bad thing because everyone knows B16’s suck
thanks I appreciate it. I got a b18b for 50 buck. So do you know anyone that might want eagle rods or can trade for some good rods for an ls. How well will ls rods hold up. Can they hold up to 15 pounds with 9:1 comp. ?Thanks
