I tried clorox last night and it didn’t do a damn thing it was the same as when I put the bleach in it not an inch of paint came of the bars I dunno what to do!!

was the water boiling hot? should be one part bleach and 3 to 4 parts hot water and shaking for a couple of minutes without burning yourself…

I’ll try and when I did it the water was not BOILING hot I let it boil and cool down a little bit. I just do not understand why it would not effect the paint on the bars at all it just doesn’t change it at all the way you see it is how it has been since tuesday afternoon the last time it changed at all and before that monday night is when it took the pink and some of the white off. This is starting to get so frustrating but I want it to look good SOOOOOOOOOOO Bad!!!

I’m going to try the clorox again tonight but for now here are pics of what I am talking about the pics of the bad light you can see has white and blak still on it and went through the black to the grey and in the 1 pic of my 1 good light you can see it is all black I am waiting until I get the bad one all grey before I get the good one all grey.

Bad white in the corner

Good Light

more gay lightness

Black & Grey in opposite corner of the white

I’ll update after I try with boiling water

Well I just did it with boiling water and bleach right as the water left the stove into the lights and it still has the white in the corner and everything else that ws there I dont knw why the fuck this is happening this is starting to really fucking piss me off and I dont know what else to try I have tried dozens of diffenet ways combinations etc. to no help Any IDEAS??? Thanks in advance Ryan – 92_GSR

Would anyone be interested in selling/trading there whited out lights for a perfect set of 92-93 tails?? When I say sell/trade I mean I will be giving you my 92 tails and money for some whited out 90-91 tails.

Try warm water + bleach, straight out of the faucet. That’s what I did, it worked instantly. If not, I don’t know what to tell you :frowning:

I don’t know WTF is up but its not working you guys think that a weak concentration of paint thinner would take it off without damaging the lense???

guys do it with simple green max, this stuff is awesome i cleaned my engine bay with it as well. it worked perfect!

it also may be the amount of weather/sunlight the tail lights have been exposed to over the years that makes the stuff come off easier.

i just did this. i used some stuff in a orange bottle from walmart. my driver side took about an hour of sloshing it around and putting more of it in. my passanger side one i put pure bleach in it and let it site for about 10 minutes. then add hot water shook it up. and did it with the orange stuff. and it cleared out in about 10 minutes. they look great, best mod ive done in awhile…

Hmm ive gone through 2 bottles of Simple green, 1 bottle of Castrol super clean and about 3 cups of bleach.
The one light cleared up 95% with all white lines left except 5% pink. the other side hasnt changed at all. I have left all 3 of the above stated cleaners in there at 100% full power, NO WATER, for up to 3 hours each cleaner. Still no changes. I went to take that 5% out and the castrol super clean took off the white, now its 80% white and 15% black lines with 5% pink. It looks all screwed.
I am now boiling water in a 1.5 gallon pot. I will use more super clean and then pour the water in and see if that works.
If this does not work I will be forced to take them apart. I have done this to many pairs of fronts. Is it the same process??? Will the foam burn off at 200 degrees??

Use some stuff called “LA’s totally awesome”. if you put a little of that plus hot water, the lines disappear on contact. right before yer eyes. you can pick it up at certain supermarkets. their number is 800-482-2875. they can probably tell you who their distributors are…

Dont use boiling hot water… Use warm water straight from the tap… i noticed it while doing a set of my own that boiling water does nothing…

Also… What you mean lines dissapear?, No pink lines or white?

the lines turn completely white. Definitely did not use hot water. I am doing another pair today!!!

I just did my pair of tail lights using 100% simple green, NO WATER, and agitate. I was looking for the Castrol but I couldn’t find it at Kragen, Pepboys or Wal-Mart.

Don’t mind the bubbles, I gotta go to work in an hour… I don’t have time to properly dry them up. I did use a hair dryer though…

Alright guys, I’ve been meaning to do this for a while - guess I’ll get motivated.

I have 2 sets of tail lights to play with, one will be sold after I de-pink all of them. I have a shelf full of degreasers and painting products.

One day I went to my local parts store where I know the manager and asked to take every product he has and give it the pepsi challenge (I was looking for something I used to own years ago that kicked ass). We started cleaning various parts of my car. Plastics, non ferrous+ferrous metals under the hood. The exhaust tips and the tires. I found that this stuff called The Right Stuff (Purple Cleaner, formula #600) surpassed the rest. About 6 months ago I was going thru a storage unit of mine and found a box that had a few bottles of the same thing but with an older style label on it.

If you guys want I can take different types of cleaners and try them out for each tail light on a timed basis. I also have no problem using my heat gun to separate them and clean them out the right way.

I have a feeling that either the Right Stuff Purple Cleaner or Bleach will probably do the job fast while the lights are together. If I’m gonna pull them apart than some Lacquer Thinner will knock it out in one pass, and if that doesn’t cut it than the Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) will do the trick.

Might start tonight, tell me your input on where I should experiment.

I also got a question.

As for taking apart the tails, is there glue on the top and bottom or just the bottom?

The oven trick didn’t go so good for me, for I’m gonna try to get a heat gun.
Any input before I get started will be appreciative. Thanks.

Sorry for posting this question in here. I couldn’t find the old teg tips for taking apart the tailights.

Bleach worked the best for me, literally instantly. You could just watch the pink fade away. And my car was in Texas for 13 years, so the sun damage cuoldn’t even stop it

Super Clean worked perfectly for me as well, worked in an instant. The hardest part was trying to FIND it:argh: , apparently Castrol doesn’t make it anymore, and they sold the formula? Thats what I was told at least…

should i call this a bump for the best post ever?

I just found this post and will be on my way to ANYWHERE to get some super clean as soon as leave work in an hour. Ill be up all night getting this done.
Ill post pics tommorow.

love yall
