I went to Autozone and bought the 3.99 Degreaser that’s in a purple spray bottle rather than the 12.99 Super Clean. It was on the upper shelf next by the Super Clean… same purple colored bottles. Took it home, took out my tail lights and used half of the Degreaser with burning hot warm water and 1 cup of Simple Green Automotive Degreaser. In matter of seconds after pouring it took effect and it was white. I then took both tailights to my garden hose and hosed it down through the lightbulb hole for a good 3 minutes and it is now drying.
I did this mod last week, verry easy to do. took me 1/2 hour to get my orginal 92 tail lights off, and a 1/2 hour to install the cleared ones.
I just used 2 cups of clorox bleech, and let it sit for an hour, in a rubermaid type box. came out clean…
peace…
Hey guys. Well I cleared out my 90 tails best I could and I like how it came out.
Bang for the buck tho Superclean method is ridiculously easy and looks a lot better than red lines. the clearing out method takes an immense amount of time and patience. It really is insanely hard and i pretty much wouldnt recommend it lol Heres what it looks like anyhow.
First pic is Supercleaned vs stock. Second is cleared vs stock.
First took half an hour, second took aprox. 5 hours and a spare set of tail lights cuz I ruined one set trying to &*#%$ get them apart. You decide.

If I had a black car I would have tinted them. Still might I dunno.
Um…it’s really simple. Each tail light has 6 8mm bolts. Unplug any connectors as well before you pull out the light. You will need to take the plastic off that covers them (it goes along the entire hatch) but be careful it’s easy to break the clips that hold it in…just get in there and look at it and you’ll see how easy it is…you only need new gaskets if yours are already in bad shape.
If you are goin to remove them to clear it out You will have to pre-heat oven to 350 to 4 mins ONLY and turn it off. Now Toss it in and let it sit in for 2-3 mins or until its hot. Now carefully pry it off as easy as it get.
Yeah I used exactly 200 Fahrenheit for 5 minutes at a time and it took 5 times or more to get them apart. It is a true exercise in patience and is ridiculously easy to mess them up.
I swear I just wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you have spare tail lights and/or are amazingly patient and thorough.
No… Just take them off the car, pull out the lights and harness, pour some hot water into them in your bathtub/sink, pour as much bleach in as you want, shake them around or let them sit on their face for 5 minutes or so, and pour out… That’s it. Rinse them out and the lines will be white, and everything else in the light will be the same.
^^^ You can use a hair dryer to dry them out. Manually drain as much water out as you can. Next, remove the bulb sockets at both ends of the assembly, point the hair dryer at one of the holes and then let the hot air circulate out the other hole. It should dry out in less than 20 minutes depending on what kind of dryer you use.
This can EASILY be done overnight. Once you’ve taken tails out then you know exactly what to do and putting them back in should take 10-15 min. But you can either air dry them overnight or do the hairdryer.
Sweet!!! I just did mine, I went to Advanced but they said they dont carry superclean, so I asked if they had any other degreaser and they said PURPLE POWER so thats what i used! I bought a 40oz spray bottle and only used about 10 sprays per tail and filled it up with hot water not boiling water hot water off the stove and worked great, there were some stubborn spots and with those I used bleach! They came out GREAT!!! They are drying now, luckily I really didnt have to go anywhere today, if i do i’ll just steal my dads tundra lol… well borrow lol
