i was just wondering about removing my air conditioning cause it doesnt do nething, its just dead, and was wondering what i should worry wbout when removing, what are the main components besides the compressor and condensor.
anybody have any past experience doing this
thanks
would this have any other affect to ther parts
such as the cooling system
or would it be a bad idea to do this all together
Condensor, compressor, evaporator and all of the hard lines. When you do this your main concern will be that if you remove the evaporator you will have a hole in between the blower and the driver’s side venting. To remedy this I bought black PVC sheeting which I will cut to fit inside of where the evaporator went. I’ll drill a 3" hole in each piece, glue a fitting to each side, and run 3" black vinyl flexible hose between each side. It will look close to stock, loose a lot of weight, and make the heater functional again. Right now it just dumps out in the passenger side footwell.
Your other concern is that when you remove the evaporator you will have a hole at your firewall. I just used the existing grommet (which has two holes) and cut a piece of thin rubber to go in the holes to keep water from entering the passenger compartment.
To take out the condensor you’ll have to remove the radiator.
Also, removing the radiator makes it much easier to get to the compressor mounting bolts. I don’t miss my A/C at all, and I have no saved A LOT of weight.

You won’t have any cooling issues. One option you have is to remove the A/C fan which blows onto the back of the radiator. You can also leave it and run a remote switch to it for extra cooling. It won’t work when you have the A/C out, but it doesn’t work anyways unless you run the A/C. The regular cooling fan will work reguardless of the A/C.
all right thanks
dont i have to drain the refridgrent though
Yes, you should properly get the R-12 (refridgerant) discharged at a shop who deals with A/C components. I forgot that because mine had already completely leaked out, so I didn’t have to get it discharged. Make sure you do this before you start removing components.
would a midas be able to do this
Call around to several shops to see who can discharge your refridgerant the cheapest. Most normal maintenance shops will do this but call ahead first.
As far as removing all of the pieces yourself, it isn’t really hard at all. I highly suggest doing it yourself as that is why this is considered a free modification.
how much weight do you think removed
ttt
Can anyone provide a general step-by-step for this?
The Helm’s manual provides a much better step by step than I ever could. Also, I was in the process of removing the engine at the same time so my directions wouldn’t work out in the same sequence of removal items.
I can provide the part number for the heater duct which replaces the air conditioning evaporator.

Cool, what’s the pn?
Ok, I am planning on getting a helm before I do my b20z swap anyway. I am getting an oil change done tomorrow(free coupon) so I am going to have them discharge my A/C and I am going to just remove the compressor. I will get the rest of it when I swap engines.
removed my AC from my teg. the conpressor alone fet like it weight a ton. along with the assorted lines, condenser, and whatever comes out to a lil bit of weight. plus not having that damn belt on main pulley help out a little. i think it was worth getting rid off.
Yeah, I was working on my car this weekend and the damned AC hoses kept getting in the way and it was frustrating as hell! I almost pulled my cordless Sawzall and took care of that mess right there and then…
unless you are an enviro freak, I’d just discharge the R-12 **** in your sytem into the atmosphere. Hell, there’s probably nothing left in there anyhow, so paying Midas cash to evacuate it would be a waste. It it doens’t get cold w/ the A/C on, likely theres nothing left in the system.
IMO, it’s not gonna be worth you $ to get them to evactuate the system – just get a thin metal or wooden dowel and push down the centre pin in the high and low pressure hose coupling things, right behing the radiator. Just like letting the air out of a tire.
PS: I may get flamed by the tree huggers here, but who cares.

The Honda part number is 79810-SK7-A01
It cost me $32.52 for the part itself, 4.95 for a “web handling charge,” and $6.00 for shipping for a grand total of $43.37. According to the American Honda Motor Co. invoice that came with it, it weighs .22 lbs. I ordered from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net
Also, installation is a breeze. I took out my glovebox and the passenger side lower dash panel to get access to it. I would advise not taking out the metal piece (refered to as a knee bolster in Helm’s section 21-10, part 4) underneath however, because to fully remove that you have to remove the center console (which requires removing the shifter knob, the driver side lower panel, and lots of screws). You can install the heater duct without removing this. Refer to section 21.10 in your Helm’s manual for help.
Also to install it, when you remove your evaporator there are TWO 10mm bolts which also have a phillips-screw-top on them and are brown/dark in color. Save these, because you will need them to install the heater duct.
The item I am refering to is item #9 All the way on the left hand side of the picture.

Hello Jonathan,
Good work finding the part and numbers! Question on the original removal of the evaporator, did you need to pull the front console to remove the evaporator or can you get it out with out removing the console and knee bolster? Yes, the Helms says they must come out but we all know they some times over dis assemble to make the job easier.
Thanks!
My A/C works fine, so I know there is plenty of fluid in there. I dont want to have to deal with removing it anyway.
