Restoring 92 GSR #1685

Whats going on guys? Im new to the site so bear with me here… anyways last summer i scooped up a 92 gsr off ebay. paid a little more then what it was worth. guy told me the motor was rebuilt and the body was in great condition. anyways, i received the car lots of rust, and the motor well lets say it last a couple months. burned through 3 quarts of oil in a month. finally heard the great ole knock. took it all apart, mismatched bearings, home machine job on block etc you get the point. anyways car sat for a half a year at my buddies shop. i went back and forth debating what to do. decided to restore the whole entire car. interior is fresh, full black leathers. working on picking up oem body parts and quarter panels. hit me up if you have anything (bumpers, hoods, fenders, quarters, doors, hatch, muffler, mudflaps etc…).

so step one i pulled the motor cleaned the engine bay repainted it milano red. putting a brand new type r motor in it for now from acura, while i rebuild the original b17. then going to work on the body and get that all restored and re painted.

im keeping everything original. the engine bay is going to look factory, no wire tucks, keeping ac, abs, etc. yes i have the original complete intake system. headers with heat shield the whole 9. ill try and update as i go…

LOL why are you bumping your own build thread.

looks good man, keep up the good work. glad to hear she just geting a good solid OEM restore

cuz i want it to stay at the top and for people to check it out… maybe more pics tomorrow

Looks great! Glad to hear you’re doing an OEM restore. If you don’t mind me asking… how much did it cost to get the seats redone? Is it real leather?

to be honest it came with those already, it appears to be real leather… not sure where they came from??? but they are the 90-93 seat styles… not sure if they came in canada, japan, or select usdm integras???

some updated pics of the engine bay with the engine thats going in hopefully very soon… while i rebuild my b17

Glad to see someone doing a good restore on a DB2. My only question is;Why not just buy a B17A1 longblock from the dealership? I understand that a B18C5 ITR engine is kind of upgrade in the power department, but may have cheaper to just buy a new B17A1 then buying a B18C5 to have meanwhile rebuilding your old B17A1.Unless you have another use for either engine.

Black leather was an option on the DA and a pretty rare one if you ask me. yours seem pretty clean so keep them that way

well honda does not sell the b17 short block anymore, and you can hardly find any parts for it to begin with… go i went with the R motor, because it is most desired, and produces most power factory. and down the road, who knows maybe i will have use for the c5 motor, as i am trying to find a type r or type r shell…

ya its pretty clean… few lil cracks but nothing serious, the back is mint beyond mint…

Dealership I used to work for shows a part# and list price of $3,100 for a long block. I purchased one a few years (about 6-7 yrs ago) for a friend for about $2,600. I do agree on hard to find parts, eventhough a OBD1 B16A is very compatible on most parts. I personally have a nostalgic love for the B17A1 but I know the B18C5 is a vast improvement. Either way good engine choices and my hat’s off to you sir.

i still have the b17a1, just getting it rebuilt… the dealerships do not offer the b17a1 block anymore nevermind a long block. you can buy the head since its a pr3

finally motor in the car!
