The main harness will still come thru the firewall exactly as it did before but the points at which it connects to the engine harness will now be relocated/altered and the route the engine harness takes from the engine to the main harness will be different. Really the way I am doing the harness this time isn’t any different from how I did it last time except that the two ends are now routed differently.

I feel your pain in wanting everything perfect but also needing to just finish. I found myself constantly stopping and re-doing something or deciding something should be replaced instead of reused…etc while I was working on the harness the other night. And just last night I was feeling very defeated by this project, probably because I’m bummed I’ll miss some HFF events.

I think I understand what you’re saying as far as your routing but I’ll have to see it. I completely understand your reasoning for trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible. I’m actually kinda surprised you’re not just skipping the little touches and getting it back on the track ASAP but it will be worth it when its done. You’ll be out there soon, don’t get discouraged!

I’ve just come to terms with the fact that mine won’t see the road anytime soon and instead I’ve decided to just do it all now so I don’t have to do any major tearing into it later. I am really shooting for having the bay and jams painted this spring though so I need to make the work in the bay a priority. Shaving the bay is much more time consuming than I originally assumed it would be so I need to put in time on that before all this other stuff.

I recently applied for a promotion at my work and though I’m going to get it, it’s going to mean I will be forced to go back to working graveyards for quite a while. As happy as I am for the step up at work I’m not looking forward to the inconvenience its going to create for both my family and my project. It is what it is though, I’ll definitely still make time to get out to the garage and do work.

Finished up my engine harness the other night. Turned out pretty good although the heat shrink I bought is too heavy duty so it’s not as flexible as I’d like. Hopefully one it sits in a really hot engine bay it’ll “break in” a little.

It looks really good! Did you end up shortening or extending any of the wiring or is it all the original length? I can definitely see how you’re going to be routing it now. Should look really good installed!

I’ve been meaning to send you an email… I found you a vss so shoot me an email with your address again, or I can probably dig it up by going through our past conversations, but I’ll get it out to you soon. Also did you ever get a response about the new jdm one pieces? I’m curious if they still have some in stock.

Thanks Mike! I did lengthen one wire, I think it was the blue wire from the dist which sends the rpm signal to the cluster. However, I had previously extended a few other wires, such as the injector wires when I re-did this harness originally. I also added an OEM 14 pin connector to a subharness that runs thru the firewall since I needed to run additional wires. I added a total of 11 wires (3 for oil pressure gauge, 2 for water temp gauge, 2 for OBD2 crank sensor, 1 for add’l alternator wire (I don’t think it’s needed, but I added it just in case), and 3 for the MAP sensor.

I’ll email you in a few about the vss, thanks for that! And no, I never heard back about the one pieces, I had actually forgotten about that entirely.

That heat shrink definitely looks heavy duty. It must be thick and strong. The harness look great Colin and clean.

Sounds like it was a lot more involved than mine was. I only had to shorten wires and I didn’t add anything. As much as it sucks that the heatshrink isn’t as flexible as you were hoping, it will help protect the wires from flexing around and possibly breaking. That old wire in our harnesses gets pretty fragile.

Came home from work to a birthday present from my girlfriend!

Dang, nice gift! It has a “classic” styling about it. Good stuff bro.

Thanks! I love this wheel. Had my eye on it for a while and she ended up getting it for me!

 really nice wheel

Thanks!

nice steering wheel, great g/f!!

Thanks! It’s gonna go great with my recaros! Hopefully picking a set up soon!

sick ass steering wheel!

Your girlfriend has good taste in steering wheels haha.

You lucky guy I wish my wife is like your girlfriend she’s a keeper.

Thanks guys!

great work man.

quick question are you planning on stitch welding the rest of the car or are you only going to fill the engine bay seems with weld?

the reason I ask is because welding the seems like that will change how the frame will react in a front end collision. you should be very careful with this thing if you are taking it out on the street when you are finished. any small front end collision even at 25 mph could end up tweaking the frame now. I wasn’t sure if you were aware of this or not.

and I didn’t see if you ever resolved your upper alternator bracket issue but yes the b16/b17 one is different than the b18’s

Great work non the less. Keep it up, i’m looking forward to updates

Thanks for the feedback! I wasn’t planning to stitch weld any of the other panels together but I did notice that you were. My reason for welding them was not to increase body rigidity except for the fact that I don’t want any body filler cracking. It’s just necessary when shaving the bay. I wasn’t really thinking about how it would affect the structural integrity in the case of an accident but I definitely am not planning any reckless street driving. I’m sure once its finished I’ll be pretty anal about keeping it safe and undamaged.

I haven’t gotten new alternator brackets yet. A local Honda enthusiast said he had some but I haven’t followed up with him and gotten them yet.
