rollinmyda's build thread

Looks great man!

Thanks! Getting there!

Good job on the build. I like the fact that your doing the work yourself. I bet you were dreaming with wires when you did the wire tuck.lol

Looks good Mike! You’re a bit ahead of me now, running into problems… :frowning: I stripped my harness two weekends ago but that’s as far as i got before I had to pack up and I’ve been gone all week. Now I just need to get a motor to mock the harness up on but that looks like it won’t be as soon as I’d planned.

When I did my b17a swap the OEM b17a IM bracket did not work with the ITR manifold. I assumed that I needed an ITR bracket, but apparently that’s not the case. And logically it makes sense due to the block deck heights. I ended up not using a manifold bracket at all, never had any issues.

I also ran into different alt brackets but I don’t remember if fitment was actually different. All I remember is that one was stamped (like the one you pictured) and one was cast steel.

I looked in my bins of stuff and no dice, man… I have PS/AC and a lower alt bracket, but no upper. Sorry man.

Worst case scenario I really think if you trimmed it to fit, the bracket would still maintain enough structural integrity to do its job. Though you’ll likely try to source a GSR bracket… should be simple enough

Aftermath- Thanks man! Yeah I want to do just about everything myself. Takes a lot longer but I can take pride in it when its done. I actually was dreaming wires… Lol. It’s hard to turn your brain off after digging that deep into it. I’m still not done with the harnesses so I’m sure more wiring nightmares are in my near future.

Colin- Youre not far behind me. It doesn’t take too long once you’ve got everything deloomed and separated. Although I haven’t added the plugs for VTEC or map yet, but I don’t think it should take me too long to add them and loom it up. Feel free to post your harness progress up in here, I’d love to check it out.

I won’t be using the IM bracket so I just need a gsr upper alternator bracket. I’m in no rush to get one, a ziptie held it just fine for my mockup… Lol

Unified- No sweat, Thanks for looking for me. I’m sure I can get one for cheap if I post up a wtb thread.

Haha yea more wire nightmares. You should be fine without the intake manifold bracket. I took mines off and have been running my motor for 4 years withou any issues.

Small update for you guys… I got some OEM color matched wiring for the MAP sensor and VTEC plugs today and pinned them up.

MAP

VTEC

Time to finish up this harness!

 amazing work, This is making me want to redo mine… HAHA

Thanks glynn! Question for you, did you relocate your MAP sensor and the evap purge solenoid or whatever you call it ? I can’t remember from your tuck thread. I was just thinking about that plug for the purge solenoid and I’m not sure I want to keep it. I’d have to find a spot to relocate it to, wire it, and route new vacuum lines (going to be using an ITR IM). I’m aware I need it for smog but I want to delete it. Just curious what you did.

I deleted the 2 round purge valves a long time before I did the tuck, the just relocated the map sensor lower on the fire wall. I might still have the bracket if your interested since Im running a 3 bar now.

Indeed. The two cylindrical sensors are easy to do away with.

The TB-mounted MAP would be easy to run since you’re redoing the wiring anyway… I had to extend my OEM harness maybe 5" to fit. I did that mainly because of the updated TB I received.

So I suppose it depends on which TB you have, or plan on running. Any modern ‘performance’ TB for our cars (as well as '94+OEM) will have them mounted on the TB.

TB mounted map sensor is the way to go

I thought I remember Glynn moving, not removing the evap solenoids, thought that’s where I got my idea to mount it down here. This was just a quick mock up, I’ll be heavily modifying the bracket so it’s not as bulky.

Seeing all your wiring makes me upset I’m not building a harness from scratch, lol! Where’d you get your oem colored wires? Oh and I was stoked to see you got that firewall mounting plate we were discussing awhile back, congrats!

Blkack1- Thanks for the offer but I’ve got a bracket or could make one if I do decide to keep the solenoid. Right now I’m kind of leaning towards deleting it though.

Unified- I’m planning on using the OEM ITR throttle body which has the MAP mounted on it and I’ll be running the wiring for it through the center of the firewall along with the rest of the engine harness. I’ll just add those wires to my subharness along with the rest of the drivers side wiring.

Colin- I was going to buy it from the guy I bought my pins from but he wanted a dollar a foot so I just grabbed it from a junkyard harness. I’m actually really pleased with how the wiring is coming out with all new pins and seals. It makes me want to repin every plug that’s visible on the harness. I may decide to but it takes a fair amount of time.

If I do decide to keep that solenoid I will relocate it. It seems like it would be fairly hidden where you have it mounted but I’m still tempted to remove it completely and only install it when smog is due.

Yeah I had contacted preludewhillie about making me a plate and he never got back to me. Then the other day he texted me asking if I’d be interested in buying the one from his car and I jumped on it! I was stoked to get the lca’s too for that price.

I also forgot to mention I got my firewall battery posts in yesterday. I’ll get a picture if anyone is interested. I’m not 100% sure if I’ll be putting the battery in the fenderwell, trunk, or under the dash but more than likely it won’t be very accessible so I chose to get a pair of the terminals so I could access it remotely if I need a jump or something.

Yeah, I picked up some extra connectors and short lengths of wire from the junk yard a while back, with some simple green and scrubbing they actually came out very clean.

Yep, same here. The worst part about old connectors is they’re very brittle so depinning them can be a challenge. They cleaned up well with a toothbrush and simple green though. The only new plug I got was for the VTEC pressure switch

I deleted both solenoids and haven’t had any problems. Your CEL wont come on if you leave them disconnected. In your case since you want to use them later for emissions, you can simply hide the connector/wires inside the car and bring them out to the engine bay when you connect the solenoids for the emission test.

Yeah thats pretty much exactly what I’m thinking. I would probably leave the wiring in place on the engine side though so I don’t have to pull anything through for smog. Probably just ziptie it up out of sight.

Yeah, you could easily tie it up under the manifold and just plug it in as needed. Although my car will be pretty illegal I’d like to keep as much of that smog stuff as possible to that at least the cops can’t get me for anything other than not being bar’d, and likely my intake setup which I haven’t decided on yet. And if possible I would like to make it possible to BAR, but we’ll see about that. Turns out my RDOT b18c1 block is damaged so I’m now again trying to figure out what my plans are.

So far these tools have been immensely helpful (de-pinning & cleaning)

I’ve been doing so much shopping at HF!

I love harbor freight for little tools like that. That reminds me I should make a trip today…

What’s wrong with your block? I thought it was a B18C ITR block, did you switch to gsr for some reason? Don’t let the setbacks get to you man. It definitely happens but you’ll be back out there eventually.
