RTA bushing replacement

[size=4]If your like MattyG2 and you beat on your car, then mostlikely your bushings are old and worn out. Since matt is SuPa FaZt n JdM he decided it was time for an upgrade, well more like a fix

Do this at your own risk, if you lose any limbs or die its not my fault

well first off you need some tools:

14mm and 17mm sockets
1/2 inch ratchet
torque wrench
breaker bar if your weak :stuck_out_tongue:
jackstands
floor jack
RTA bushing (Mugen, OEM, ES)
OEM part# is 52385-SK7-N02

start off by loosening the lugnuts and raising up one side of the car.
Make sure to always use some jackstands to secure the car,

When the car is secured loosen and remove the 14mm bolt holding the Toe arm, and the 14mm bolt for Camber arm, then remove the 2 17mm bolts holding in the RTA bushing bracket in place

sorry forgot to take pic :frowning:

If your car is as JdM as matts, then your bushing will look like this
ripped and torn after years of abuse

Then get your OEM/MUGEN/ES RTA bushing

Then get your cool tool SCHLEY PRODUCTS INC 65130 HONDA/ACURA BUSHING X-TRACTOR tool

If you followed your instructions your tool should look like this
the using a ratchet and 14mm socket turn the end, forcing the bushing out the opossite side. Make sure if you are using OEM/Mugen RTA bushings to ā€œclockā€ them, this is done by marking the position of the ā€œflat partā€ on the bushing bracket to another point on the RTA. So when you replace the bushing it will be as close as possible to the original position

if you did everything right and the bushing fell out the backside, it should look like this

now look at your old bushings and wonder why you were so lazy to replace them. Look at how nice the new one looks

After ā€œclockingā€ the OEM/Mugen bushing, replacement is the same as removal
place your tool over the bushing and your your ratchet and 14mm to press the bushing back in the front side of the RTA

now tighten and torque everything down that you took off (camber arm, toe arm and RTA bushing bracket)

follow torque specifications from your HELMS/HAYNES Manual

Now what you want to do is take your car to the alignment shop as your toe will be off

I was bored

That last picture makes me think Leo wants something from Matty, not sure whatā€¦

:horny:

W00t write up ftw, the new RTA bushing makes a HUGE difference!!! YOU ALL should be doing this. I donā€™t know why I waited this long for this.

I wish I would have done my suspension piece by piece, like you are. I bet itā€™s nice getting to feel every improvement each new part brings. Job guys!

The only thing that sucks about doing it one part at a time is you have to reassemble everything after you see how bad all the other bushings need to be replaced. In my case anyway, I replace one thing and notice 10 more that need to be replaced.

Iā€™ll be doing this myself soon. Where did you get the tool? Rental from autozone I assume?

no a good buddy of ours loaned it to us, i just picked up another press for bushings woot woot. matt and i will tackle that tomorrow

anyone that wants to do this cruise over to my house with a 24 pack of heineken lol

I thought that kit wouldnā€™t work to well with our cars cause of the bigger bushing and what not? Where can I get a good OEM rplacement the Acura DEaler I usually use can seem to order it. Thanks guys. O and where can I get the tool at?

The tool comes with the adapter for the 90-93 integra trailing arm application. You can get the Honda OEM RTA Bushing online at one the honda oem sites, the part # is in the pictures posted.

Where would i get the tool? And every time i order parts from online site the part numbers on the website never match the part numbers on the bags?

Good write-up! But I prefer Energy Suspension RTA bushings. No special tool needed, but you will need a friend to help press them in.

I opted for the OEM for specific reasons, but this was to show how easy it can be to push out the RTA bushing with the tool and push it back in.

Yo Leoā€¦ pics are downā€¦ can you post them up again? Planning to hopefully do it this weekend since I just realized they have the updated X-tractor that fits the 90-93 RTA bushingsā€¦ pics NOW! Thanks!

LOL Iā€™m going to stop by Kragen today and see if they have the actual updated X-tractor in stock for rentalā€¦ if so, you can do the same instead of buying it for $150+.

Also, thereā€™s a guy here in San Jose that rents them out for $25 for 3 daysā€¦ maybe you should rent from him if you canā€™t source it out anywhereā€¦ email me if you want his numberā€¦

Too bad I donā€™t have a house so no garage to work on the car or else we would have a DA repair day togetherā€¦ no homo :stuck_out_tongue: I work on my car at my cousinā€™s house so I donā€™t think itā€™s a good idea to bring strangers to his house LOLā€¦

LOL I hear yea I asked Kragens an they said they dont have it maybe i should get ahold of the guy in san jose. An I hear you on working on the cars I can only do it on weekends in the garage in my apartment. When the office is closed so that were I will be doing it lol

email me his # greazemunkey73@yahoo.com

How do you know how far to pushing in the bushing?

Thank you for sharing. This is worthy of placing in the Teg Tips section.

I plan on doing this in the spring and have already printed it out.

Measure with something how far the original bushing is in there before pushing it out.
