Everyone needs to watch out these days because cops will pull you over if you even look like you race.
I was the owner of 1991 Honda Integra XSI and I was sitting at a stop light when i got pulled over for “extremely loud” exhaust. Even though my registration checked out and the tickets they could write were only fix-its they impounded my car. I spent the next two months in and out of court trying to fight for it back but in the end i lost of course. The only good thing that came out of this was they allowed me to keep my hood, wheels, and headlights. All but the wheels are sold (on the for sale forum) but still doesnt change anything.
To anyone who spends their time, money, and sweat into their cars, watch out and be prepared. Make sure you have all necessary paperwork and KNOW the laws! After they realized they had no reason to hold my car (Which i had to show in court) they did a registration history check and long story short apparently the original owner of the car didnt file all necessary paperwork to begin with thus making the car illegal. While i should of checked on all this 3 years ago when i bought the car it goes to prove that its worth the time to do your homework on the laws and regulations before you get into something like this.
basically CHP never fully cleared the car. It was still registered through DMV, and because i was not the one who didnt process the claim the state was willing to give me parts but still required the destruction of the car.
originally i thought SDPD wanted it for undercover because ive heard of that happening and since DRAGNET is back in status in San Diego i wouldnt put it past them.

i cant believe it!!.. i really loved your car and always thought that everything was legit!! even though it wasn’t… they should’ve just required it all to be fixed…the laws the are enforced nowadays are bullshit!!!

ya and lawyers arnt cheap so i was on my own, spent hours tryin to find loopholes and ways around it and found a couple but it came down to the fact as it stands in San Diego, Because the laws here are so strict on racing anyone who looks like a street racer is guilty of it. The Judges and Cops down here really dont care they jus want anyone who doesnt drive a mustang or corvette off the streets.
My exhaust was completely within the decibal law and carb legal BUT as the law states its up to a cops judgement whether or not its too loud. So by law the whole reason for even pulling me over was legitiment in the eyes of a judge.
and from there is when they harrased me about the rest of the car and eventually had it impounded.
NOTE: as far as i know as it stands California State Referee is currently inactive so its partly why they impounded me for investigation instead of giving me a ticket

i better run a history check on all my cars. i hate to say it but its hard owning an import car nowadays here in san diego. thats why i basically dont drive my db1 that much. too much bullshit.
ya San Diego is cracking down left and right these days. Jus try to cover your ass by having all your bases covered, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS and KNOW the laws. The cop tried pushing me around and intimidating me until he realized i knew the laws and my rights.
Also dont try to be a smart ass, the only reason i was given parts was because the officer proposed the idea to the judge because of how i was during the initial process. While i was beyond furious, i kept my cool because lets face it NO MATTER WHAT WE SAY they are gonna do WHAT THEY WANNA DO.
and let me correct myself, while it was an officer who pulled me over an undercover detective was the one who called me in and had the cop pull me over for exhaust. I thought i was getting pulled over for something simple until he walked up in plain clothes asking me to pop my hood and step out of my car
Move to oregon, or some other state that doesnt have as strick of laws. Where i live theres no smog bs, and you can get away with almost anything. Things are slowly changing thou.
Man seriously. I am fkn tired of Cali and its bs. I mean yeah I love the state but the laws and police departments are turning more and more stupid each day. First call I get from my company to move to Oregon or Washington and Im out of cali and its stupid bs.
