yeah CHP caught me for exhaust on the 8 in san diego… and popped my hood and popped my hood and saw my JDM b16, sent me to the ref, where i passed visually with the USDM p30 smog, but failed out the pipe and the judge made me junk my DA i got in 97 this summer… so i bought a db2 last weekend
I don’t understand. Why did they feel the need to crush it? what exactly did the original owner not do to make it illegal? I saw this in the for sale thread a few years ago and i could have sworn the owner said it was a conversion, if that is why they decided to take it off the streets.

Did you let them pop your hood? You know you don’t need to consent to them looking under there. I would never let a cop look under my hood, even though everything under there is legit minus the JDM vin plate on my DC2 conversion. Let them go through the hassle of finding probable cause and/or getting a warrant. I’ve had cops harass me before for loud exhaust, and the asshole said “I bet you’ve got an illegal intake under there too.” My response “Maybe, but you’re not looking under there.”
I mean i passed visually, i was just a gross polluter out the tailpipe. My emission readings were bad. They actually got worse after I went all USDM spec, I almost passed when I failed visually with the JDM intake mani and PCV. My NOx was off the charts apparently. I tried cooler sparkplugs, fuel cleaners, new cat, retarded timing etc…
They can have you pop the hood if they have “probably cause” and my modified exhaust was probable apparently. He said if I don’t pop my hood he’s impounding my car. The whole time I had a red number extension pass in my window, and I had told the DMV I had a JDM motor and I needed to get it to the ref eventually,and they issued me the moving pass. I told the cop and he said doesn’t matter I’m breaking the law. To make it more fun the week before, a thief cut my hood cable ( my alarm saved the car at least so I ran out in my chonies with my nunchucks) so I had to really jam my hand under my splash guard in my suit on my way to work without tools and pull on the cable on the freeway. So it was an extra awesome week for me.
