**Searched** Skunk 2 pro Vs CTR/ITR

I am going to be needing some cams soon for my build. I can not seem to find any ITRs that are from a dealer. Only CTR.

I want to rev out to 9 grand and make more power on low boost. I am going with the skunk 2 pro series cam gears. I can buy both, just not sure which one to use! I have heard that skunk 2 makes the car idle higher, but give you a lot of more hp where as the CTR give you the same hp ratings, just at a higher boost but cant get as much power at 9 grand. (I havea a b17 head, not that it really matters)

Your comments/suggestions WELCOME!

whats your set up? power band goals?

Its going to be fully built (If money allows)

Block bored/sleeved to 84mm
CP pistons
Crower Rods
Acl bearings
New OEM oil pump
Machined crank journal oil passages
OEM timing belt
OEM tensioner
OEM water pump
OEM top end gasket set
ARP head studs
Supertech Valves, springs & retainers

I am shooting for 420+ on pump gas and 500 on race. Give or take. I want to have high end power and be able to rev out to 9 grand.

I plan to use valves, valves springs & retainers, just not sure If I should use Supertech or Skunk 2.

what turbo and manifold are u using. and is the motor a b17? is that the reason for boring it to 83mm.

Also I would leave the crank alone honda cranks are some of the best leave it as is.

For those power goals, stock ITR cams are going to be fine. I’m still on 01 ITR cams, HP is levellnig off and slowly tapers off so does the torque, but not enough to warrant cams. And I’m reving to 9500 and making alot more power

Yeah it is a b17 motor. I am going to be running a T3 Ramhorn Manifold.

I would like to use ITR cams. Cant find them new! so its either CTR or skunk 2. Skunk 2 cam gears are for sure!

did you try jhpusa for the cams?

No, I didnt. Thank you for the site ! If I were to go with Skunk 2 cams or gears should I use the skunk 2 valvetrain or can I still be able to run supertech?

Its best that you do not mix and match your valvetrain components, I’d suggest you use all skunk2 or all supertech. Aftermarket companies do R&D on their products and advertise the power that they researched on for the maximum customer satisfaction. Though some block components that are mixed up (Crower/Aries, Eagle/Wiseco) can work in harmony, I just dont feel the valvetrain should not.

You are correct. If I go with skunk 2 cams/gears I will be running skunk 2 valvetrain as it reccmonds that on there website. If i use CTR/ITR with skunk 2 cam gears I will be using supertech

Trying to make as much power as I can!

For those of you running the skunk 2 pro, did you notice alot more power on the dyno at lower boost or no? I would like to be at 15-16 PSI on 93 pump gas.

I am bit of a noob with cranks. If I use the Machined crank journal oil passages, would it still be the b17 crank? I want to use eagle rods, but since they dont make them for the B17a I have to use the crower. again… a noob.:read:

yes its still a b17 crank but I wouldnt do any machine work to it

I was talking about the bore size your choosing use

I may or may not machine the crank…time will tell.

I want either a 83 or 84mm bore/sleeve. What is the best for a b17?

n0things really better. I would do 84mm i think would put u at 1.9l

Yeah I found a set of Crower Rods for $604 for the set that comes with a 84MM bore. For those that are running crower rods, how do you like them? are they just as good as eagle rods?

Lower boost levels no, you will experience ljmpy idle, terrible part throttle and over all “eh” daily driving. Unless you are trying to make 600+ you dont want the PRO1 Cams…get CTRs, if you HAVE to get Skunk2 cams, get the Tuner 1s

double post

Well if thats the case, I am going to go with the CTR cams as I am going to drive my car more then to the track:rofl: and I dont want to have a “eh” daily driving. Will I be able to make 420+ whp with the CTR’s? and are the pro 1 cam gears good to use ?
