shaking during accel

thats messed up what did i do

Sorry ! It wasn’t directed towards you ! The post before mine has seemed to have been deleted and that person hopefully got banned too.

ok so i swapped axels…again, and still no change in vibration…infact it seemed to be more. when i went back to the old axles the vibration definitely decreased…is it possible that all these axles are just shit axles. It seems to me that when you lower your car your actually increasing the distance between the halfshaft and the wheel hub so this would cause the axel to actually not fit exactly right…right?? also, i had my motor mounts checked and there all fine so i know its not that. SO im thinking either a bad intermediate shaft or ive just had a bad run with axels…this is SOOOO FRUSTRATING!!!

get NEW GSP axels from advanced auto. that should solve your problem

…swapped axles again, still no change, although i didnt swap the intermediate shaft im starting to think that its the differential itself, that would explain the fact that sometimes it does go away and other times it shakes pretty violently. The first time i changed the driveside axle it was seized in the intermediate shaft so bad that both splines were twisted. what ever caused that to happen (alot of freaking torque and heat) definitely had to have done something on the other end (differential)…not to mention that my tranny does have 228k miles on it and even though it never grinds and still shifts like butter doesnt mean that the diff is good. Any thoughts guys???..i really need somebody to put some thought into this one before responding as im running outta cash and i really wanna drive my DA again!! Also i jacked up the front end and everything is solid as a rock no play so i know its not bearings or ball joints, and its not motor mounts either. I checked that too they are all fine.

did u say the splines on your half shaft were messed up? that could lead to the inner cv joint sitting cocked because splines are missing?

check mine out haha. it’s pretty bad.

try tight stick w transmission by the axle both, it happened to my da9… after that it seem fine a long time :manual:

^ elaborate?

my tranny mount was loose!!! that ultimately made my car shake at certain speeds! tightened it and the shake is gone!!!

^ gonna check that. torque spec?

i dunno. just as long as the bolt is snug, i guess.

I’ve had plenty of trouble with shaking axles. Autozone (aka Cardone) and most other cheap axles are garbage. New or remanned didn’t really make any difference for me. If they don’t have the rubber torque damper rings around the middle, they aren’t built to OEM specs and are likely to shake like hell. I even had problems with all new suspension components, a B20Z with Innovative mounts, Full Race traction bars, and a freshly built LSD transmission (I’m sure the B20Z and short geared tranny were contributing to exploiting the epic failure of the axles). I also had every engine, transmission, and suspension bolt torqued to factory spec. Anyway, after finally saving up some money and buying some axles from Raxles.com (after replacing a couple different brands multiple times under warranty). Needless to say, I don’t have any problems any more. Any other brand with the torque damper rings on them should also eliminate vibrations.

Did you tell Marty you were lowered, or is that just an OTS kit?

I just told him my axles were shaking like hell and I wanted some that wouldn’t. As far as I know, mine are just standard off the shelf raxles. They actually help with traction just as much as with shaking in my car… I had bad enough shaking from my previous axles that it basically caused wheel hop (traction bar and LSD don’t fully function with a crappy set of axles). I’ve had the raxles in a few weeks now and am still getting used to the fact that my car doesn’t feel or sound like it’s going to totally fall apart every time I get on the throttle.

Right on, good to know with you being as low as you are. I had actually bought a set a couple months ago when I swapped my clutch out, and I’ve been through two other driver’s side since then. I’ve replaced the knuckle, lca, and halfshalft now, so I’m hoping it’s not the diff bearing, but that’s what it’s looking like. Mounts are solid too

my driver side axle was gone and fixed. woo!

hmm…well how much are raxles?..and do they do returns at all? i would hate to spend $300 on axles swap them out and still have this vibration. Also what about the differential bearing is that something i can replace or is that like…get a new tranny, lol. Its so wierd but i know what u mean about driving it and feeling like its gonna fall apart…I HATE IT! but like i stated before it is an intermittent problem, i mean its there most of the time but there are times when i accelerate and its smooth like a babies ass…it feels like im driving a completely different car when the vibration is gone.

it sure is! man, it feels AWESOME!!

The shitty thing is, I did spend the $300 on Raxles, and now I’m on my second driver’s side from Autozone since then (and if I need a third, Lifetime warranty FTW!!). But I’m pretty sure it’s an underlying problem, so I might try out this other YS1 I have here and see what that does
