A year or so ago I parted out a couple of rotting 300zx turbo’s for a buddy.
In lieu of payment I took one of the vg30et’s, this one with a nasty rod knock but a fresh turbo. It’s been sitting under a tarp in his shed since and I got to thinking about it the other day.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details but I believe it’s a t3, internally wastegated at something like 7 psi (which would be just fine by me)
My goals for the teg have always been modest.“Spirited” daily driving at 180ish hp and I’d be satisfied. Did’nt really plan to boost but had pretty much forgotten about my freebie turbo.
As it stands now the teg has a bone stock b18. Sounds/feels very healthy. Of course, I’d do a compression/leak down test first.
Not exactly sure what I’d do about engine management yet, but I do have some dsm 450’s and a walboro 255.
The 300 ZX used no intercooler at all and I’m wondering if I could get away with the same. I know it’s less than ideal, but we’re talking 7 or less psi.
Or maybe a dsm smic mounted in the battery tray with ducts from the fender well pouring air on it, (as suggested by the g2ic turbo guide)
A stock exterior look is an important factor in whether or not i’d boost.
its a good turbo. a guy here made 220whp with one of those. Id say get the intercooler and upgrade the fuel pump as well. i have some turbo parts for sale if u are interested. maxboost@hotmail.com
Pretty sure I’m gonna go for it.
Intercooled with custom manny and dp, management with crome.
one problem though, my dsm 450’s turned out to be 360’s.
Is this gonna be enough? (Internal wastegate is at 6.8 psi and I may cut it down to 5 with a boost controller.)
I’m running a saab t3 setup with 450s and at redline on about 7psi, I’ve got a 70% duty cycle on it. So considering those 360s are 20% smaller, you might be maxing them out, especially with boost spikes…I’d try to get a hold of some 450s…they arent too bad, like 50-70 bucks and u could prolly trade the 360s or sell them for cash. Im running turboedit cuz im OBD0, but crome is a great program- might want to look into uberdata too.
