hey guys i finished up my project and have been driving it around for the past few days. my stock clutch can not hold the power anymore and i ordered a new XTD 6-puck racing clutch. however it seems that my car hold s 6psi (WG setting) just fine but then i dont know what happens next,
my wastegate spikes hitting 10psi there for making my clutch slip big time
-or-
my clutch starts slipping and that would make it possible for a spike to 10psi?
i dont know whats happening if anyone can chime in. basically i just want to make sure that i have a 6psi spring and not a 10. so would a slipping clutch allow my turbo to spool past the stock WG setting because the engine goes from a large load to suddenly less when the slip occurs? thanks alot!
If you have less load on the motor, your boost will acutally go down. A slipping clutch should not give you a boost spike. What manifold are you running? I believe Drag mainifolds have problems with boost spikes. At any rate, 10 psi should not cause a six puck clutch to slip.
EDIT: I just read you still have the stock clutch in the car still. I would say you are spiking first.
Your wastegate will have a harder time controlling boost with more load on the engine. That is why you are fine in first but spike in second. That is also why your clutch will be slipping in 2nd but not in first. Even after you change the clutch, your boost will still be spiking. What kind of wastegate are you running? What manifold? It’s hard to solve your problem without knowing anything about your setup?
If everything is hooked up correctly, I would blame the spiking on the wastegate. I don’t know what kind of quality SSAC wastegates are, but thats about the only thing that would give you a boost spike, assuming everything is hooked up correctly.
