well I got this k03 VW turbo out of a audi A4 from one of my buddys. It only has about 20,000 miles on it and has no shaft play what so ever and I was wondering if anyone could let me know if it COULD be a good match for my b17a1?
bump… im curious too…
+1
the exaust housing on those are so small, i think there would hardley be any spool time.
Thats the compressor map for that turbo- See how the map ends at .15 m^3/sec? Thats equal to about 317CFM and about 26lb/min so horsepower wise, the compressor wheel will max at around 250ish. But really you can’t base a turbo on how many horses it will make- but how much air it will flow- Its a little small- Ask the VW 1.8 T guys. Its small for their 1.8s…how bout yours thats a little older and a little less technologically advanced?
EDIT- You’re 1.7 I mean. And since you Rev to high hell…Its going to run out of steam near the upper rev range. You’ll outflow your turbine…and then All you’re doing is creating backpressure. Depends on a horsepower goal and how much boost you are willing to run. On a high compression V-tec motor, you’re looking at 12lbs to be safe so look for a turbo that will flow something like 400-500 CFM
well im trying to just run about 6 lbs…I just want like 220 or something…im not trying to go rediculous with it…I just want one to play with
I’m running 6 psi on a 60 trim T3 and only putting out 170 whp… You’ll have hard time getting at 220 with 6 psi.
