Hey guys, I’m new to this site and just wanted to run this by for advice/ideas before I actually try it.
I have been thinking of picking up an F23a from a local wrecking yard for dirt cheap, put in some K20 pistons, Bisimoto camshaft & cam gear, mate it to a B16 tranny, get it tuned and drop it in my 90 RS. I’ve heard of similar set ups in heavier chassis putting down around 190whp/170wtq. What do you guys think of this set up?
Nobody has any input on this set up??

Make a g23. Why keep it sohc when you can source out an h22 head and you’re already gonna buy aftermarket cams, buy it for the h22 head, and Put it together with the k20 pistons you plan on buying. You won’t have ac or ps with either set up though, but the g23 will put down way more power then the f23
thats too much work for such little power…just ls/vtec

I know the G23 consists of F23 block and H22 head, but if I go that route it will cause me to actually lose compression and power. That’s why I was thinking of sticking with the F23 head.
Why do u say it’s too much work for little power? LS/Vtec don’t put out much power let alone torque. That power range is closer to K20 numbers.

How do you figure you will be losing compression with the g23?
how high do you want your compression ratio?
SOHC just arent worth it

Well average G23 cr is around 11.3:1 with K20 pistons and about 8.8:1 with stock F23 pistons. They F23 with K20 pistons and F23 head will put out roughly 12.3:1 or so I have been told.
I guess I’ll just have build it and find out what this single cam is capable of. If all else fails I can source an H22 head and just do the G23. Should be interesting to pull up to meets, pop my hood and have people scratch their heads when they see a SOHC in my engine bay :shock:

Well heres an idea fuck all that an just do a kswap youll get the power and tourque with better reliability the h22. F23 sounds lame either way sohc come on now.
K swap will run around 6-7k to do, H22 would run around 3500, B20VTEC depending on what is put in around 2500, F23 with the mods I want to do under 2k.
And u’ll be surprised what a single cam can do. Also would like to be a little different from everyone else. So we’ll see what the lame F23 will put down for less then 2k.

im doing a k swap so i researched all my options. So i do know what is capable of what. Single cam can make power just like anything else itsa matter of quality parts research and budget. Its really do what you want obviously but ask yourself will you be satisfied with the end results or will you want to selll it at a huge loss of money?
Every time I read a thread with “I can get “X” engine for cheap” I always think to myself this is not going to turn out good.
i think ur bettr off b20v. but yea id get a f22dohc and do the h22 head n k pistons. ur cr will change wih cams and either way u will have more torq and hp with a dohc all day! BTW h2B IS GANA COST MORE THEN UR SWAP.
not to burst ur bubble or “hate” or anything but atleast in cali if we seen a sohc in any integra we might just chukkle and/or keep walking
BTW hush22 i belive is in the works of making a sohc DA fullybuilt tho
I’ll just have to wait and see the dyno results on my F-series. Most expensive thing will be the Bisi header and tune.

Thanks man, I mean I have to atleast try it. I got the complete F23 for $100 and I know it runs because I started it before we pulled it (I love having friends who own wrecking yards). If I’m not satisfied then I can always turn it into a G23. Should be an interesting build.
wats up with the g23 to my understanding its don with a f22dohc not sohc or are they both possible/the same block?
