SSautochrome Experience

ONE-FAB COPY!!! O NO!
Well the DP does looks nice, But im curious to how that manifold is going to hold up and how much alone did that thing cost u?

^if ur askin me, it was $213 shipped for manifold and downpipe.

they certainly eveloved with time. The wastegate brace is bigger now and it seems that the welds are solid. But you DO HAVE TO brace your 4 runners to the t3 flange with solid stainless rod. Need to dremel the internal wastegate port too (inside where the 4 runner meets).

Im running an SSauto setup for a month now with a t3. Boost instanteniously, no crack and NO SPIKES. they replied to me (on ebay) to all my questions. SO far, thumbs up for them :corn:

they must have some sort of virus.

this debate will go on forever…its an american thing…its just too tempting looking all bling bling in the pictures for a cheap ass price, supershittyautocrap is making a killing i can tell you that, so good for them, there have been good storys and bad its luck of the draw, but a 50% customer satisfaction rate isnt too good of a gamble, also i always say this you can get a used kit that 100 times better for same price as the new crap, their manifolds look cool ill give em that but i think its looks more than function or quality

This is what I made @ about 8psi. . .

with this kit:

I’m in the process of upgrading now, but it never did me wrong.

not to thread jack but damn that valve cover looks nice id like to do that considering i have to do a lash adjustment soon any way… how long and how much on products did that cost u?

92notec: Nice numbers, What turbo/setup did you have?

Well, I gotta say the customer service aspect is ok, as when they shipped me the wrong turbo and forgot my BOV, they responded quickly and shipped withing a day of confusion. I went to pick up my stuff and it was all there, new BOV (RFL copy) and my T3/T04E-50Trim. They even shipped me a new downpipe, which I told them all I needed was the flange… LOL. Oh well. I’ll take it.

I was always under the impression that SS welded together manifolds were prone to cracking no matter where you got them from? Unless you brace them. As for my bracing, yes I will post pictures of what I doing, I am hoping to support it between the flanges as mentioned above and maybe even put an additional support to the block (TBD) althought it might be a while, I am off on business trip for 4 weeks. So the project has to be put on a hold for a bit.

Here it is mached up on my spare engine.

There is Definately fitment issues. I will have to cut/grind/weld a few things to make them fit. Going to try and do as much as I can before I leave for the business trip.

The valve cover took about $20 in materials and a lot of elbow grease to accomplish. Definitely worth it IMO.

The turbo is a t3/t4 .63 ar turbine and 57 trim compressor. Other than that, everything was pretty standard. I was even running just a 2.25" exhaust at the time!

Got my turbo today, and decided to mock up the mani/turbo like you did. Unfortunately, its not even close to fitting  . On mine (pics on previous page) the turbine side of the turbo goes on the drivers side. With the turbo mounted like this, the inlet on the compressor hits the engine block where the transmission bolts up. Even if I shaved enough of the block for it to clear, their would be no room for a filter of any kind.

My options are to

-cut off and reweld the turbo flange on the manifold, and then mod the dp to fit the repositioned turbo, or

-get a downpipe that goes on the passeger side.

Yep, you get what you pay for. But, for what I paid, I’m still not complaining.

hey spaz, cant you run a 45 off the inlet of the turbo and run a filter off that?

actually, I should have put that there wouldnt be enough room for an intake of any kind to the inlet. I planned on building a nice intake tube so the turbo can take in cold air.

After a lot of playing around with everything, I decided that I can actually solve the problem by adding a 1/2in spacer between the mani and the head. I’ll just add a 1/2in flange, like the one thats already on the manifold where it bolts up to the head. That will allow enough room for me to work with, but I still would have to cut away a part of the block. I’ll post pics later.

check this out to see what i mean.

i dont think you should do the adapter, its going to just be another thing to go wrong, and you will have to find studs not only long enough but strong enough. You should grind that section of the block off, OR redo the flange for the turbo. The only problem with redoing the flange is that you will have to redo the downpipe. I would grind the block and see where that gets you.

It’s hard to tell without seeing your setup in person, but it looks like you have the same issue I had with the old style SSAutochrome mani. I just took a cold chisel and busted that tab off the block. LOL. It gave me just enough room to run an intake tube down below the battery.

ya know the only parts you guys are bashing are just the turbo parts, i drive an S13 and i have alot of friends that are running their exhausts and a few buddies with an SR with their stuff, and so far no problems.

you guys have to look at other products aside from just one side of it, their intercoolers havent been mentioned yet, neither have their exhausts. and you know why, because nobody has had a problem with them. so consider testing other products. try testing their intake manifolds, and their N/A headers, pulleys. i also noticed the have lambo door hinges, if som1 out here wants some lambo dorrs, then let us know how it went. next time you guys start bashing a company, make sure you have a first hand experience and not going off what other people say, instead of bashing them try a product that cant damage the car and see how it goes.

they dont just make turbo parts, hope i have enlightened some people.

i had one of their turbo manifolds and it fit like shit turbo hung so low it was almost touching the crossmember, and i sold the wastegate i got with it to my buddy and it locked up on him when he was on a 3rd gear pull, the boost shot up to around 15 psi, and blew the motor. I will never purchase anything from them again. This is not from “word of mouth” this is actual experience seen first hand.

90DALS… This is the FI forum, why the hell would we be talking about lambo doors and N/A headers? Of course we’re going to be talking about their turbo products!!

haha sorry i was just bringing to light that there are other products they make, i mainly hear them bashing the company in general, they arent specific about what they had that messed up on them. so im just shedding some light on them.
