starter car b20b or b18b

B20b or b18b for starter car to do upgrades to

im so lost on what to do i already have a b18b(non vtech obviously) obd1 but im
thinking about what would be most reliable a b18b turbo 10psi wit APR rod bolts and chrome tuning
or b20b wit turbo 10psi wit APR rod bolts and chome tuning

its what ever you feel like going with since your boosting both of them. but i personally like b20b better especially if building it with vtec.

I hear that the b20 sleeves aren’t sufficient enough or am i hearing the wrong info. I like the concept of a b20 vtec. but. . . . b18b isnt bad either

k well we all know that the sleeves arent as this well i aint worried bout that im just goona tune them both anyways so it wont have any affect the weak points in the b20b are the rod bolts witch are ARP that im ordering in but i already havwe a b18b 1996 so … and i can get a b20b vtech fo like 350 right now

is the b18b the jdm or usdm one? someone correct me cuz i keep thinking that the b18b is only a jdm motor. if there is a usdm one then ok. since you have the b18b already, just keep it and put a vtec head on it and boost it.

It ultimately depends on what you want.

If you want more torque, go with the B20B. If you want horsepower, go with the B18B.

The block is essentially the same, but the cylinder walls are thinner in the B20B because the cylinders are 84mm versus 81mm on the B18B.

arent they usually both good in torque?

no becuz the b20b is vtech and has more tq cuz has more displacement

kk I think im goona go with the b20b put ARP rod bolts put sum comp cams in tune it put a t3/to4 turbo wit spearco intercooler and greddy bov and then get catback made and then atfer about 2 months of driving it ill resleeve it

my background

and just to let you guys no this is my first car im goona be to mods to i am 14 just turned 15 2007 and the cars iv owned so far are 1984 nissan quad cab 1987 toyota 4 runner wit 3 inch lift and 35 tires and my field truck to beat the shit with that im selling 1992 ford ranger xlt wit 65***k on the engine all of them have been 5 speed except the nissan i like going fast and i love working on cars i am officially a honda head now iv researched and drove them since i was 11 years old … my family is into tuners and imports also

plus another reason im getting a b20 is cuz a stock b20 with minor boltons can put a b18c in its place

no they work fine its just you cant run a turbo on them without tuning your car they will crack but with tuning your car you could run 18psi on stock ones just make sure you tune them really well

b20b is non vtec stock you need the head to have vtec.

b20b with minor mods cant take a type r trust me. type r stock will take a b20b especially since the b20b doesnt have vtec. youd have to build it to take type rs

That’s correct, the B20B is a non-VTEC engine. It’s the engine from the CR-V, but it has more torque than the B18A1 that came stock with my car.

The B18 generates 130 hp & 121 lbs.-ft. @ 5000 rpm and the JDM B20B generates 126 hp & 133 lbs.-ft @ 4,300 rpm.

A properly built B20B with a VTEC head is an awesome thing to behold.
