Another, yet small, update. Ordered a Prothane shifter bushing kit in red. Just got them today. Installed them with some minor problems, but overall everything came out pretty good. The difference in shifts is night and day. 1000X times better than those 20 year old bushings.
sliminemkorn: Thanks! Haha yeah I got it for free. I work for one of those “as seen on tv” stores XD lol and yes sir they feel that much better. I regret selling my weighted Blox shift knob. The shifts feel so clean with the combo of my Megan Racing short shifter. My old stabilizer bushing (non donut) had my stabilizer bar sagging so much that my shifter was hitting my exhaust pipe causing annoying rattling. Once I get another weighted knob, I will be a lot more happier than I already am. And for 15 bucks, you really can’t go wrong, unless you have already replaced your bushings. If not then I highly recommend it
Just decided to throw this on my thread. Today, I was so bored at home that I randomly decided to strip my valve cover down to bare metal. I want to hopefully get my valve cover in a mirror finish. While I was at it, I thought to myself… DA MOTOR. XD I ended up grinding down HON and CO. on the valve cover. Don’t know if anyone’s done it yet, but I now have officially done it. haha. So here is some pics.
Fun time with some paint stripper. (burned my hand with this stuff twice today.)
How DA MOTOR looks. (Kinda ghetto IMO, but I like it)
Engine bay shot of the valve cover completely finished and installed on the motor.
I’m not really into the b20b valve cover. If I ever got a b20b long block, I’d probably switch valve covers. I like how the ls valve cover looks. It’s got more shape to it. the other one looks like it was formed out of like lego blocks or something; too simple. But I’m not gonna argue, cause everyone has their opinions. But I have to take sides with Blkack. The original cover wins. It’ll look better once i get around to polishing it. Need to find me some of that AUTOSOL Metal Polish.
Finally after 4 months of not posting a damn thing, my thread is starting to get a little juicy. Started my engine build! B18B block, B16 head. LS/VTEC… Me and a friend picked it up for 350, and we’re gonna rebuild it over the course of 5 months, utilizing my school’s machines for honing out the block, and cleaning everything out; things of that nature. To elaborate on what’s going into this build here’s some parts.
New bearings (main, and rods)
Shot peened rods
New seals
arp rod bolts
arp head studs
blox dual valve springs
new valves (if old ones can’t be cleaned to where im satisfied)
G.E. ls/vtec conversion kit
B16 pistons
Stock cams
Hondata I.M. gasket
LS I.M.
VTEC oil pump, water pump.
Port match intake runners to LS runners.
Gonna be pretty basic. And lastly, get it all tuned by RedZone. Not too sure on what ECU I wanna run yet. Enough of my ranting, here are some pics.
Everything I got. Only missing the Vtec solenoid (which I picked up from another local, for 30 bucks)
And the carnage. Tore both the head and block down to nothing. (head still has rocker arms though) All done in 2 hours with running into slight problems.
And that’s pretty much it. Gonna start cleaning the valves and head a tiny bit in the morning.
Well haven’t really done too much to my LS/Vtec build yet, as school hasn’t started yet. However, I have changed a couple things around as to what I’m putting into it.
-Got a set of 96+ spec GSR cams (Way bigger difference from regular lobes and vtec lobes)
-KMS valvetrain (valves, springs, titanium retainers, and OEM valve seals) The valves that originally came with the head were garbage. so much carbon buildup. The looked like it was poorly maintained.
And I did a little research on the intake manifold and discovered LS intake manifolds need to be modified to fit, so I am now on the hunt for either a first generation Blox intake manifold, or an OEM ITR/CTR manifold.
And other than the change of stuff I’m putting into the motor, I have shaved down all of the lettering on the valve cover, and only left “DA MOTOR” to keep it at a some what sleeper status. (cops around here don’t know what a vtec solenoid is so I’m in the clear LOL)
-Since my last response, I have done the following:
-Went all out on buying valve train from SuperTech. Valve guides, valve seals, valves, springs.
-Ordered an upper Vtec timing belt cover.
-Ordered Ceramic engine enamel in a plum purple.
-Sanded down and shaved a bunch of lettering off the valve cover, and painted it with some of the engine enamel.
-Picked up a set of JDM DA seats. Pretty clean, and a 10000x better than my previous RS seats.
-Cleaned out the carpet a little bit. Didn’t do too much. But it was something.
-Spray painted my trunk for the hell of it.
-Picked up a Type R shift linkage to replace the horrible rattling shift linkage.
Enough of my ranting. Here are some pics.

Upcoming events and more pics:
3 angle valve job.
Valve train assembly. Everything but the cams and caps and such that won’t allow me to install the head to the block. lol!
Head is almost complete. Had to ream the intake guides to fit the intake valves properly. Broke the reamer around the 6th guide (Wasn’t given a fucking drill. And using the t-handle wasn’t a walk in the park. The reamer just couldn’t handle my muscles :giggle: lol) After we get another tool, the guides will be done, and then I start the 3 angle job, and do a gasket match port to make sure everything’s all good, and then the head will be fully assembled and ready for the block.
Moving onto the block. It has been jet washed. Main caps were sand blasted, rods were sand blasted, and old pistons were sand blasted and are now decorations. XD
Rods will be getting shot peened next week, and the rod bolts will be replaced. All measurements will be done next week for proper bearing clearances and such. Gonna be honing the block out 4 thousands of an inch to have that nice new cross hatch texture. full assembly of the motor should begin around april-ish.
Now for pics.
Block with main caps, torqued down for measurements
Rods sand blasted
ARP rod bolts (number one part needed for ls/vtec if you wanna make the motor last)
Old POS pistons on the left, the new b16 pistons on the right
Uh if i get time. Cuz its a class thing. And the jet wash and sand blaster get used frequently. text me what exactly you need sand blasted and all that.
