has anyone ever re wired fogs to automaticlly come on when you start the car?is this possible?

thanx shawn [/B]

What you are changing when you rewire it is where the switch gets it’s power from - the stock is to only have power when the headlights are on, but you should be able to change it to anything you can find a wire for (with windshield wipers, with subwoofer pulses, etc.) To make them come on with the ignition, find a wire that is on with ignition, and splice a wire from it to your foglight wire as described above. You shouldn’t worry about it blowing a fuse - it is only switching a relay.

all this does

your borrowing the current from the defroster wire, since the defroster power is always ON thats all your doing

Like a fork in the road that turns into one road

Everything functions exactly THE SAME

Nice pics… I just did fogs and it was pretty easy after i got the switches out. I was being too careful

Tips:

-Use a flat head screwdriver or knife (I used a knife works easier)to pop switch covers (they come off easier pulling from left to right)
-Pull the switch forward with flathead or long nose pliers (it clicks loose)

Hope this helps for anyone doing this in the future.

OEM h4h bulbs can be found on optionsauto.com for 29.99 a piece. plus shipping and tax (if applies to you). it comes out to be like 75 bucks. you could also order Raybrig bulbs from there. they are much whitter but im not sure how much better they light up the road. im running polarg h4h bulbs that i got for 69.99 before tax from Island Motorsports. number is (714) 522-7457. ask for Jimmy.

the whole where to get h4h bulbs topic has been discussed in many threads. try :search: button.

back on topic- i know this is an old thread BUT:

will 18 gauge speaker wire work if i’m running them under the steering wheel on an RS? It has 2 wires running together, a square for positive, and round for negative attached… or should i just go get some from somewhere… would the RatShack have it?

if i used that speaker cable… should i just combine the two lines or just use the square or round wires…?

I would think 18 gauge should work - it dosen’t need much current at all. You could split the wires apart (they pull apart easy) and use just one of them, or keep them together and let one hang, just tape the ends off so it dosen’t accidentally short anything.

whew… okay, i havent heard anyone using speaker wire as power. but yes it can work, and as for me, it’s been safe. hahaha, i’ve been doing it for a while.

well… its not that i do it often, its just the only wire i have around… i hope it works… anyway… its rated at 18gauge… but is that for both wires? or am i making it 36gauge (eep!) by only using 1/2 of the whole wire… i hope this is making sense.

just did mine… used 1/2 the a8 gauge wire… after i saw the size of the wires already in there, i realized it wasn’t going to be a problem…

mine are on oppisite sides of the steering wheel, and it was still REAL easy… just use needle nose plyers to pull the switch once the cover is off, and pulling the filler switch(no function) on each side gives u more room to work with.

as for running the wire, just feed the wire down thru the defroster hole, underneeth the steering wheel, behind the pannel, grab it with your hand… then do the same thing… feed it back up to the fog hole, and its invisible…

it looks great! i will now be running my fogs 24/7 (unless its foggy). thanks for the tips guys.

call me stoopid …but …isnt it possbile to just cut the fog light and defroster wires …strip the end of the fog light wire that goes to the fogg light switch, as well as strip both the cut ends of the defroster wires …twist all 3 up togerher and connect them with a simple platic cap? (ones best buy usually sells in their little stereo install kit, and that their people use if they install ur deck)???
or do you actually have to put that extra wire in there??

putting the wire in there just makes it that much easier. its just that extra length. it helps! try it

yeah dude, if u’ve seen how long those wires are… u’d see that u pretty much need an extra wire. espesially if you have an rs like me and u have to run under the steering wheel.

haha …i didnt think bout the length …my bad.
i guess it would make the job a lot easier…
so 16 or 18 gage wire would work?..thanx

lets say you did happen to accidentally break the little rod things behind the switch while you were taking it off. were would you get a new one. just for instance. and your junk yard doesnt have any. would the dealership be able to get them.
