Can’t hurt to disconnect the battery, it takes less time than asking. The rear defrost not working could be a bad ICU, my defrost timer doesn’t work and the defrost itself sometimes doesn’t want to turn on or off, but it doesn’t affect the foglights (which I wired up according to the teg tips).

ICU ?
i was told it might be the relay but don’t know where its located
kooo shit man
just tried this out it was fast and easy just used a 3 inch wire extension for more flex and waa laa works like a brezzy
I had my fogs and defrost on opposite sides too, but I just pulled out all my switches, re-arainged the wires inside the dash and put my fog switch next to my defrost switch, put the ones I use most on the left and ones I use least on the right…

how do u get the buttons to pop off
how do u get the fog buttons to pop off with out breaking it.
I actually popped out my blank switch cover and reached in with a finger and pushed from the back on the switches and they pop right out with no marks
That’s what I did on my RS when I did this about a year and a half ago.
thank for the teg tip fellas. just did mine the other day and it was way too easy. I soldered the connection though cause i dont trust just tape
yo
nice tip. works perfect. i run mine all the time.
Hey, this is a great post and very helpful. I am planning on doing this during the week (whenever my cold goes away), and I just had a few quick questions, I’ve never wired anything in my life, so I want to make sure I understand everything
So, first of all, in the part where you cut the red/yellow wire from the fog switch, you actually CUT it, completely off, right? And two inches from the switch? Then you don’t need that piece you cut off?
And splicing is just like, twisting the wires together?
Then I just cover it with electrical tape, and I’m done?
Thanks, sorry if the questions are obvious, again, I’ve never wired anything.

Yes, you want to cut the wire completely but make sure you wrap up the unused wire.
And splicing is just like, twisting the wires together?
Splicing (taking one wire and adding it to an exsisting wire) is were you cut the plastic on the wire (not the actual wire itself) and add in the wire from the fog switch
Then I just cover it with electrical tape, and I’m done?
Electrical tape is fine, but can come loose. i prefer wirenuts or shrink tubes
Thank you so much, I hope it goes well lol
i was worried at first also. took me about 15mins to do. i think the longest part was removing the dash piece with the switches on it, after that it was cake. Good luck
ok, I’m getting frustrated…
I can get the buttons off, but how do I get the rest of the switch to come out? It seems there is no way to pop it out! People have done this without removing the bezel right?? How the hell…?!?
Nevermind, I just went out and did the whole thing…doesn’t that figure? LOL I’m happy, this is my first time wiring something but it was really easy! :hi5:
